Vegas tourney money

Bac try writing an opinion letter to the press demanding infomation. You love writing. But try to make it be generic and not specific to RU.. I know that would difficult since you blame RU for everything but it would be more effective-- most smart people understand we can't be responsible for everything.
What press ?

I think the whole premise assumes that we should know what they're getting paid when what they're getting paid has nothing to do with the players market value or perception of what the fans think the market value is.

Just because Mike Repole is the St Johns vitamin water billionaire, doesn't mean much to me, if hes overpaying to take Kadary Richmond from Seton Hall, just to make a statement in the tristate area.....

First of all, he overpaid for a solid guard but not a great player and 2nd, he wanted to make Seton Hall look bad in the process. The guard does not fit at all, how Rick Pitino typically recruits guards.....Richmond is a terrible shooter and a terrible FT shooter.

There's a lot more value (in my opinion) that a billionaire should have captured via the transfer portal than Kadary Richmond and the pieces they assembled. Don't get me wrong, Pitino can make magic happen with any roster, but in the case of RU, if we are not donating at a high level, how do you believe you or any small or modest donor, has the right to know what someone is being paid??

If you contribute at a certain amount, I kinda think it's understood where your money goes, but as a donor of under X- Amount, I don't think it's relevant.

It's only being mentioned because the climate of the whole process is against athletes getting paid. It's why I asked if it should be zero....because if you say it shouldn't be zero, but don't actually place a dollar amount out there, it kinda indicates that you may not really believe the players should be paid at all.

It's like fans don't want to be viewed as old school or have their heads in the sand, but most as recently as a year ago, we're dead-set against players getting paid.....why would I believe they're suddenly OK with it, if they're asking about how much their being paid??

If you have to ask, it means at your core, you don't believe they should be paid....its just OK to admit you and others fans don't believe in the concept (not specifically you or anyone, but there are enough fans across the country that fit a narrative of you have a scholarship and that's all you should get, while a coach gets 4M to 10M per year.....
I have no problem with them getting paid. But f someone is willing to donate their money, good for them, just not that important for me to see us win if it’s going to involve me paying them.

I honestly don’t care where the Vegas $ went or how it was split up, and I’m not sure why anyone would.

I would rather the OP spend a few minutes talking about how $hitty the BIG refs are in some games instead of asking this same question over and over :)

The 2 best overall performances of the season given the competition were in Vegas with tons of scouts watching and playing to add $1 million to the pockets. People forget that
This, and why I find it odd we never bring up that game at OSU as a game we should have realized the season was not going to go how we all hoped. Harper and Bailey go from averaging a combined 47 pts in Vegas to having only a combined 32 pts against a bad OSU team.

That OSU game was a week after their last game, plenty of time to rest and study film so that was not an excuse. Just always found it odd how poorly they played against what was a bad team compared to in Vegas.

In the case of the Vegas money no. A private entity can distribute money as they see fit. They don't owe the public anything. If I donating a lot of NIL money, I would certainly expect to know where the money went.
The private entity (Vegas Tourney) paid $1M to RU for NIL. It was up to RU to distribute it as they saw fit. I have questioned this here on the
board and never got an answer. Knowing we had $1M coming this year, why couldn't it have been used to get a rim protector or retain Cliff?
If that money was divided in some fashion to the current roster, then what a waste!

yeah if I recall the defense was truly pourous that game. I think it came when OSU was reeling coming off a 83-59 loss at Maryland. Harper was 6-13 fg for 20 aand Ace was just 6-16 fg for 16. Ogbole had 10 in 25 minutes and OSU shot 55%

OSU always had a bit of 5-7 point cushion but RU went into an 8 minute funk of just 5 points allowing OSU to go up double digits and put the game away well before the 5 minute mark. They won easily and RU showed zero fight

why is it so controversial for some people to ask questions about this.
It just comes down to the fact that you have no right to find out what other people make for income. And NO is this not a government or state job. As it’s currently structured, it’s advertising/services/etc. These athletes are in demand. It’s simply capitalism. If the universities pay them, it may be a different story. On the flip side, if you donate to NIL, you can direct money to where ever you want for the most part.

its no different than a contract for Mike Judge...pay to play there is no services or advertising me done at this point, that is a ruse

The difference is that Rutgers isn't paying them, private entities are. Whether that's a collective or a single individual, it's a payment made to a player for use of their name, image, or likeness. That could be anything from a national ad campaign to an autographed photo, for literally any amount of money. None of that is disclosed publicly.

If the rules were changed such that all such money *must* come through a collective, and the collectives *must* be transparent with their disbursement (either to maintain some sort of certification, or for tax purposes, etc), then that would change. But right now there are no rules.

He has no right to know but he definitely has the right to ask.

I mean I think it's fairly clear there is something out of whack in a market where random college basketball guys are getting more than the average EuroLeague player. I don't really CARE outside of the fact that it might make it impossible for Rutgers to compete but I don't think the current state represents non-distorted fair market prices or is any kind of equilibrium.
It's easy if fans didn't watch or care the ,$ wouldn't be there.

1. Why is it a secret?

2. How was it distributed? I read a post here that it wasnt an even distribution. Was this all just an Ace/Dylan thing.

3. Why couldnt Pike sell this in the portal, I thought this was announced that RU would likely get an invite last March?

4. RU is playing next year and hard to turn down money but probably better off playing a really weak non conferene schedule to just get wins

5. If people are expected to pay for NIL shouldnt we have full disclosure on what everyone is making
They decided to put all the money into the program and not the players, spent all the money on hiring an expert Baseline Inbounds Play Coordinator
