I'm sure Richie will post this later, but I figured I'd post it now. GS defends the handling of the last drive because of where we started the drive; says Gavin had his best game; that the three special teams penalties hurt a lot; that our defense didn't play well enough (for instance, the secondary looked slow, perhaps because we were playing on grass).

Dude is just not intelligent as a coach. And then he takes umbrage at a question about his decision making. You are what your record says you are.

This guy would be a completely forgotten afterthought if Ray Rice wasn't on his team back in the day.

Twaddle. Rice was the best player on that team, but it was anything but a one man show. The other starting RB was a 2nd rd draft pick. The QB was a 4th year future NFL draft pick. The 2 TEs were the equal or better than Langan. There were 2 NFL wrs. There were 3 future NFL OL. And the D was excellent. Oh, and Kordell Young, who would have been Rice's replacement was a Monongai caliber RB.

Who do you think recruited them?

Seems like a politician side stepping his bad record. 2.0 Greg is definitely more comfortable spinning why his team stinks. That’s ok in year 3, not gonna fly in year 6. Keep chopping

The grass comment was odd . Plenty of grass on Busch to practice and I know they have practices on grass .

Greg has always been a great snake oil salesman.

why is anyone surprised. This is how Schiano has coached for the past 20 years. He would regularly take a knee at midfield with time on the clock leading into half time.
Can’t imagine recruits much less transfers signing up for this brand of football.

.

Recruits see freshman playing significant minutes over less talented upper class men.
Guys that want a chance to play & be close to home & play against top teams in the country choose to be here. Transfers can play now if they are better than incumbents.

Kids want to play, and see how they stack.up against the best, & want family & friends watch them play.

That is why they want to play for Schiano.

He didn't do that against UL in 08 or 09 which lead to Ron English chasing Greg off the field going into half time.

Exactly right. Ruins recruiting when offensive is secondary.

I like Schiano but with the transfer portal the likelihood of keeping players for 3-4 years is minimal. You must win now and play an exciting brand of football or risk losing athletes. That is all I am saying. Schiano this year is not playing with any kind of urgency and taking a knee going into half time does not send the best of messages to people that want to compete.

Actually, I thought RU played a decent game
RU has a real QB now - a reason a RB got 150 yds since defenders had to respect the passing game
Gavin really showed some progress in only second start ( 2 TDs and no turnovcers with almsot 240 yds).

The timeout thing didn't bother me because I saw Schiano lose a game to L'ville after calling a TO in last seconds of half . Charlie Strong specifically mentioned that TD as a reason L'ville won.

GS also got Teel injured calling a TO with 45 seconds before a half (Norfolk 07) . Teel ended-up hitting his thumb on a helmet.

Its not like RU is KC or a Brady NE

All in all - penalties aside - I thought RU showed some late season progress and thats good.

Saying he would do it again bothers me. If he can't get out of his own way with offense he will fail here.

His stubbornness was a big plus in 1.0. He needed to do a lot of things off the field to get the program even close to on par with it's peers.

Now that stubbornness is a negative. We don't need that program builder. We need a football coach.

The fact he arrogantly says he would do that same thing every time tells you he's never going to get it. He'd do himself a big favor by coming into a press conference and say what we all know- he should have done something differently.

The fact he still doesn't get that is a part of what will ultimately ruin him. He's never evolved as a coach. He didn't learn anything from Urban Meyer.

Tennessee must regret not hiring him.
Landing talented players at a place like Tennessee with deep pockets is a little easier. And they have a few bucks to pay for a real staff, not glorified high school coaches as assistants. Schiano could have succeeded at Tennessee.

Of course, good recruiters are. They have to sell that vision to the kids. Why else would they pick RU.
Exactly right. Some of our fans are delusional. Just change OC or HC or QB and we will will 9 games. Schiano has a vision. He has done it before and he did it here taking us as high as #7. Kids want to play for him. He puts kids in the NFL and looks after all of his players.

We can second guess every decision here and everywhere when any team loses. That’s Monday morning QB and sometimes we are right in second guessing. But this guy can sell a vision and build a program. That much we know for sure.

I'm not on board with this line of reasoning. And I'm usually the epitome of positive. Posted this in another thread. Thoughts?

Next year is a pivotal year for Schiano. 6-6 is the minimum expectation for "success."

Sept. 2 vs. Northwestern* -No excuses. Must win.
Sept. 9 vs. Temple--Lose and go home. EJ Warner passed for 486 yards and 3 TDs today in 43-36 loss.
Sept. 16 vs. Virginia Tech--No excuses- Must win.
Sept. 23 at Michigan*--Keep it close?
Sept. 30 vs. Wagner--Lose and go home.
Oct. 7 at Wisconsin*---Probable loss.
Oct. 14 vs. Michigan State*--Winnable if RU plays to win, not lose
Oct. 21 at Indiana*--Winnable if RU plays to win, not lose.
Nov. 4 vs. Ohio State*--No chance.
Nov. 11 at Iowa*--Opportunity for signature win.
Nov. 18 at Penn State*--Probably not.
Nov. 25 vs. Maryland*--tough game if Taulia is back, winnable if RU plays to win, not lose.

On paper, there are 5 very winnable games: NW, Temple, VT, Wagner, Indiana
In year 4, if Schiano can't notch 6 wins, really should be at least 7 wins, he will not get it done at Rutgers.

Yep . He gets the time to do it . I am not sure if he will succeed this time though .

We don't agree all that often, but we agree 100% on this.

Greg is also really good at crashing into victory formations. It's slimy at best, dangerous at worst. Why is this man on our sidelines?
LOL. Should be two hand touch. So dangerous of football players crashing into each other.

I'm not sure I see a problem crashing into victory formations -- so long as the other team knows you're going to do it. I'm sure everyone now knows Schiano does it. Of course, it only should be done when your team can win with one score.

Unlike many fans on this board I was not an outspoken advocate to rehire Schiano. I had no objection to hiring him but wanted an effective search. But you guys who blow with the wind after a loss and want to change coaches every afternoon are just fickle crybabies.Your act is always the same with every coach. You did it to Pike and you'll do it again with him after a loss.Thats the only thing that is consistent. Schiano is a jersey guy liked by high school coaches in the state who respects RU and personally has matured in his micro managing style. Shyt I remember when Gov Murphy sung his praises , some guys here were having orgasms. Reality is Schiano gives us a real chance of succeeding and deserves support. The school will give him that .

What’s dumb is how our HC f#cked up this game big time. Again.

That was what he referred to when he responded to this and my response.

I am assuming you are a kid who lives in his parents' basement. Now, back to the real world, slamming into the knees of the OL who are in a victory formation is not only dangerous, but extremely classless. If Rutgers under Schiano ever got to the point where we were competing for championships and some bottom feeder program tried to do that to our OL this whole board would light up calling for that coach to be suspended/fired. Give me a break!

I assume you give up a lot. I rather be classless than giving up. Did we get flagged for that play? Are you suggesting Navy’s entire OL is classless?
