Villanova #1

Of course that could happen. Almost any team could beat any team on a given day. Thats why its so hard to win it all. Match ups, and you have to play your best each game. However, you keep getting there every year, its going to happen soon enough!

VU has as good a shot as any team at making the Final 4 because they are in that group of 10 good teams. There are no great teams but VU is right there with any other team.

my thinking is that they won't because that's generally what happens to Jay Wright teams historically. If you are looking for the one seed to lose to an 8 or a 4/5 this is the most likey

The thing about Villanova that most don't see is that they have a REALLY good defense. Our offense is allot different than it was at the beginning of the year too. Allot more slashing to the rim and not just shooting 3s.

Also, we got blown out by OK, but that would not happen now. We were no where near as good then as we are now. Not saying OK didn't get better but nobody would blow us out now. We are so much better than we were when we played in Hawaii and our defense is always on whether or not our offense is on. Our defense sucked at the beginning of the year. We lost 35 pts a game and 3 great defenders to graduation and it took a while to get our D going,
Yes. Early on, if Nova missed threes they were in trouble and if I remember right, they couldn't make a shot vs Ok (and I am sure Ok's defense had lots to do with that). But as the BE started, they found more ways to score and have proven to be a very average three pt shooting team. They are actually very tough on the boards, and the Hart kid is a handful to deal with all game. Ochefu is a very good center, and Arch and Brunson are both very good. That is a lot of talent, and they bring kids like Booth in off the bench. And they defend at every position and are well coached. I don't think they are the best team in the nation. But I watched a lot of Ok vs Tx last night. It was a good game, but I didn't think I saw the best team in that one either. Some years no team is as good as we think the best team should be. There is a lot of pressure on the BE teams to do well in the NCAAs this year. On the other hand, recruiting seems to be staying at a high level. Other than SJU, every team can beat you. DP is certainly a weak link, but they can still be tough.

your team didn't belong in the top 10. That was a joke. Are you tied for 4th/5th in your own league.
At the time they were 14 and 1 with wins over Arizona and at Butler who at the time was coming off a win at Purdue A way overrated big 10 team at their place. Speaks to the strength of the Big East conference. It's easy to go back and say this team did not belong but based on their body of work at the time they did belong at that time. I would agree since then they have not played as well and are not a top ten team. I have said before they are a very young and inexperienced team and expected them to have some rough spots in the season. In my opinion the whole ranking system is a joke anyway Oklahoma is far and away thew best team i have seen this year and should be number one.

bac2therac,

It wasn't a joke at all the Providence was in the top 10. They beat teams that put them there where they were. They started out unranked this year. Of course they deserve it. Do you have any clue about college basketball this year? Every single team has flaws.

Providence deserved it and have a good team with a very good defense. They are a little thin but have had a ton of injuries and sicknesses this year. Fazekus is finally coming back into his own. Bentil, was out the 2nd half of that game vs. Depaul which threw them out of wack and got outrebounded by a big margin. When you are thin and lose one of the best players in the country in the 1st half of a game, things like that happen. You should know that. RU beat Wisonsin last year. Enough said.

When you say historically, do you mean like:

2004/2005 - sweet 16
2005/2006 - elite 8
2007/2008 - sweet 16
2008/2009 - final 4

Historically speaking of course!

Referencing recent history would have been a more accurate way to say it. That said, I will trade for Jay's NCAA record any day.

the last year you put up was 2009......7 YEARS AGO!....as Janet sang...what have you done for me lately

I love what he has done for us lately. Ranked in the top 10 every year. Its enjoyable being a season ticket holder. The last few years haven't been good in the tourny, but you have to be there to win and he is getting us there. The last 2 years, (one ran into team as a 7 seed that won the National Championship...no shame there), and last year, lost to a team that beat all the top teams in the ACC during the year. Top that with playing terrible, shi+ happens. But I love where our team is and has been the last few years.

I don't think anyone would argue that Nova does not belong in the top-10 or even the top-5, but No. 1, given their accomplishments this year, seems like a real stretch. As I noted above, for example, they don't have nearly the quality wins that UO has. The Sooners have 5 wins over schools also ranked in the Top 25 (and one). They've beaten Villanova handily, West Virginia, Iowa State, Texas and Baylor, and their only loss to a currently unranked team is last week's loss at Kansas State.

I agree----but guess what-----they're there.

Who cares ? It all gets sorted out in March.

The Poster noted that he doesn't expect a National Championship .

IMO anything beyond the Round of 16 would be surprising but this going to be an unusual tournament. I can name 20 teams that have a legit shot at getting to the Final 4.

I agree---------Maryland is another school with a solid hoop tradition who has never been ranked # 1.

YEA

33 WEEKS RANKED #2

most by far of all time, almost most times winning against a top 5 team by far.

Why? Because North Carolina voters hate us.

The new BE is a far cry from it's former self...but in the NCAA tourney its all about matchups...we'll see how far they go..Based on their recent history, not far...

I don't know about that..I don't know your schedule but SHU's schedule looks brutal and I know you guys play once.
Not worried at all. As long as we stay healthy. Rpi still at 37 with only one loss outside the top 100.

Four weeks till Selection Sunday----long way to go.

Twenty wins should be the goal IMO.

Villanova is a very beatable #1. Doesn't mean I don't wish we were them. And I'm sure they'd beat us by 30. It just means they aren't a dominant team by any stretch (like you'd think when you go back to the various good teams in the past). Lots of parity this year, which will be fun come March Madness.

Agreed things are wide open this year a number of teams could make a run.

I would not be guaranteeing anything and may be time to start worrying. 6-6 in Conference behind SHU, Creighton, and Georgetown, tied with Butler and only a game ahead of Marquette whom you lost to twice. Two away games at SHU and Xavier... Lots to worry about.

As a Rutgers season ticket holder its rather depressing to read a thread about teams with winning records and possible NCAA entrants.
