They are swimming in donations following the NCAA title and being ranked close to #1, highly likely 1 seed in tourny in 2017, and recruiting looking extremely good.

Wright is not the type to over recruit-----doesn't want the problems.

It's caught them a few times-----like now.

With Booth done for the year and Spellman's academic issue Nova playing basically with 7 guys.

Guys, lets call a spade a spade. The Pavilion, aka the Ski Lodge, is a worse on campus facility than the RAC.

They are investing, so far we are not.

That is the story IMHO. Spin it any way you want but those are the facts as I see them.

I wonder if Jay is going to stay at Villanova until he retires or will he moves somewhere else as a challenge. He won the national championship last year so its going to be hard to top that moment there. I wonder if say Indiana fires Crean this year or next that they might want to lure Jay away

Oh I can see that.

I could see this. Crean does "less with more" better than almost any coach out there.

Villanova is a small private school that has excelled in track and mens basketball. They have attracted top head coaches that has kept Villanova relevant in college basketball. In contrast Rutgers a major state university has changed conferences but the dismal results remain. The RAC needs a upgrade in seating and other amenities to make it look first class but I doubt it will happen before 2023 at the earliest.Nobody that matters ,ie,fans and donors see the urgency for improvements. They think the practice facility will satisfy the needs but what they fail to understand is that league opponents and other recruiting rivals have both.

You are the king of stating the obvious.

Exactly and that the RAC should have never got to this level in the first place.

And the stock answer, donate more. Come on man! Gotta do better. RU could and should find a way.

And what other people seem to not understand is the reason that league opponents and other recruiting rivals are upgrading both is because they are making 50 million when we make 12 million. It's sad but it's the price to pay in order to get a membership is this conference which we will have forever in the Erie so if it takes 5 years of falling behind to be getting it is what it is but we know that Once the money comes in we will have a better chance competing and that goes for all sports

If he were to leave nova, which I don't expect,it would not be for a college job like Indiana that would be ridiculous.

Not sure if serious

1. He's born and raised in PA.
2. He works/lives in Philadelphia.
3. He makes $2.5M
4. He has strong recruiting area.
5. He has brand name cache.

Indiana is not the draw it used to be. I believe Crean makes $3M a year. I don't think $500k is enough to remove him and family from his home or job security at Villanova. I'm also sure any proposed salary increase would be met by Villanova. The move makes no sense. And again, Indiana or Philly!

Indiana is still one of the premier programs in the country even though it has overall lost some luster. It has advantages that Villanova does not have. I am not saying that Jay would leave for Indiana but if wishes to have a challenge, a job like Indiana which overall is a better program than Villanova (I am not talking about year to year..talking about program here, support, money, conference all that jazz) this would be a job that he could leap to. There are not many jobs you can see Jay jumping to and it would only be to programs historically on the elite level like Kentucky, UNC, Duke, UCLA, Indiana..say what you want about Indiana but these are those programs where the name means just as much as the results. As good as the BE is, the Big 10 can offer even more visibility and prestige.

Some coaches want challenges, some want to stay, Does he want to stay at Nova another 15 years? Would he jump to the NBA?

wow - next season will be weird ..."majority of our men’s home games will be played in Philadelphia at the Wells Fargo Center and the women’s home games will be held on campus in the Jake Nevin Field House."

majority of our men’s home games ..... so some men's games might be at Jake Nevin? - Oh my ... be like watching "Hoosiers"

In my head I was thinking the same exact thing in terms of the programs you listed, but, I would not include Indiana. I understand the reasoning though. Even if including them, I do think you can argue that Indiana would be the least attractive to Jay and also least logical (in my opinion at least). Personally, I don't think he leaves for anything else other than an NBA job, but if he went college, it would be Duke/UNC/UCLA/Kentucky in that order (some jobs less likely to become available than others) and I would think Kansas would be more attractive than Indiana.

From the challenge aspect, I think it's just too subjective, and I'm sure he considers winning another title at Nova a challenge like any other .

The issue with Jay Wright going to an Indiana, IMO, is that the school and AD will have no loyalty to him as a HC. 1 or 2 less than stellar seasons and he could be shown the door, although with a nice buyout.

At Nova he has built up a great deal of goodwill and can likely finish out his coaching career there as their top MBB coach of all time. If I'm Jay Wright I am staying put on the Main Line.

We played them at Jake Nevin my freshman year (bailey's senior year). It's a lot like the Barn except there are seats behind the benches and a stage behind one basket

disagree...Indiana is probably better than Kansas and what puts them over the edge is the Big 10 association

Kansas is nice but its below Indiana in basketball royalty. Hoosiers!

Agreed. The guy and his family love the Philly area, he gets paid pretty well and has total support from his admin and alumni. If he hasn't left at this point I doubt he ever does.

Not sure why people think he would be so open to leaving for Indiana.

Ego, Money, Challenge... Didn't Rollie in his hey day almost bolt to the Nets?

Again it's a challenge to win a title anywhere. Money? Villanova will not just let him walk without matching or nearly matching compensation. Ego? Not sure how ego would lend him to taking that job.

For the life of me I can't see it.

As an aside, Indiana v Kansas, I think I straw poll of fans and a poll of recruits/players would yield some cool results.

Been to both for games-------a game at Phog Allen Field House is like going to Yankee Stadium . Everyone who likes college basketball should see a game there.

IU is interesting----used to have a customer with season tickets and whenever I was in town he would take me to game there. Great atmosphere but what was interesting was the age of the people in his area. You had people in their 70's and 80's in the seats.
Some had their tickets since Branch McCracken was the HC.

Cameron is supposed to be this Mecca but to me it was OK. It isn't a packed house at the Palestra I can tell you that.

Chapel Hill is a better venue IMO.

Most underrated spot that doesn't get the ink IMO is Dayton-----great atmosphere for college basketball and a really tough place to win when the Flyers are good.

Most underrated

One reason Kansas might be a better job than Indiana is that you don't have to worry about being compared to Bobby Knight. Kansas has fantastic tradition like Indiana does, maybe even better. It's the only game in town there as they care less about football than the Hoosiers do. The only drawback to Kansas might be the future or lack thereof of the Big 12

Jay turned down UK after Tubby left. They hired Billy Gillespie. He makes over 3 mill per year from salary alone. He always says don't mess with happy. He isn't going anywhere soon.

Upgrade to the arena on campus?
It was small when I saw a game few years ago

I see him staying. There are enough grass is greener cautionary tales out there. He is at a basketball-first school in a solid league that is just challenging enough to consistently build a tournament resume, but not completely overwhelming. He's in a good spot for recruiting with many regional rivalries in tact. They are making a commitment to facilities so there's no real reason to leave.

Cool now their arena wont not look like 1977 anymore. Imagine if we actually started winning and donors would get excited about us too and then we would not have to play in an arena that looks like 1977.

I don't know how to supply the link, but google Kansas basketball dorm and play the video tour and see if you still think Kansas is below anyone(Agreed it is still Kansas, but the dorm is like a penthouse or mansion for their players).

Best of Luck,
Groz
