Washington Game To Be Shown at The Yard

If they were really serious they'd show it on the video board in the stadium.

I'm pretty sure that this new space is just open this year. This may be the first of these types of events. Its really for the students and I think you will get a much better turnout on College Ave. We all know how tough it is to get the students to home games at the stadium imagine how tough it would be to get them there for an away game!

Anyway , this sounds like a great way to use what is probably a campus transforming space.

Was just told yesterday (by a guy running working there) that this project is running behind (shocker!). Crews were supposed to be done, cleaned up, and out, prior to students landing on campus.

That being said if the video board is ready then awesome!

Drive by there every day, and it sure looks behind schedule to me. Can't fathom it being up and running in time for school, though I'm no construction expert. The last week or so I've seen a substantial increase in workers.

WOW! Another WONDERFUL addition to both student and campus life (and community relations) You new "students" are lucky-many improvements over the years since I was a student. Hope the screen shows well in daylight.

For those who haven't been to campus in recent years there is virutally a new TOWN (reminds me of parts of Red Bank) on Livingston with stores, movie theatre, student center, yada. Was only there once to the movie threatre in monsoon-like rain. However a great experience in that the theatre (doubles as lecture hall) was so small it was like a personal theatre. The then (2015?) box office manger? asked if we were alum and if so we were welcome to come back anytime with alum IDs and get in for $4.50 I bELieve.

I'd still prefer the Grease Truck there over this. Some of my greatest memories stumbling to that corner at 2am.

Does anyone know if the Landscape planning/design department on Cook had any part of the input for this? Former Professor DeBoer RIP was a big RU football fan/donor from what Ive heard and read. He'd likely love this concept (if he wasn't part of the design team).

The showing of this game is meant for the kids. Current students at Rutgers University not the bulk of us on this site. Don't embarrass yourselves by showing up to this. We don't want to hear complaints on how teenagers were acting and how you could not see the game because the kids kept standing up blocking your views.

comvocation? Is that where they teach the new students the B.S.
version of the Alma Mater?

You go chrisru99 - keep telling people what to do!

Some older fans are kids at heart, and don't have a problem mixing and mingling with the students.

Cofifa,
I was on campus last week--you guys have done a GREAT !!! job with the new Honors College, new academic building and new dorms. Now if you can just let us in on when the new 15,000 seat hockey/basketball arena construction will begin.

I just want to know if there will be someone, somewhere in the greater Boston area that will be televising the game. I don't want to default to watching it online.

Beantown,
I don't know if you have Comcast, but here at the Shore, Comcast carries the Pac 12 Newtork.

And some younger fans think their sheet don't stink as all the while they're fumigating the room.

It will be done and open...

Well "done" and "open are 2 different things but I'll take your word for it I guess. Just relaying what I was told Sunday, at my niece's 4th b-day party, by one of the engineers on the project.Good luck!

Cofifa,
Wouldn't you impose some type of financial penalty if they don't have x amount of things done by the time the students get there ?

While this sounds great...in reality only a few hundred fans would show up for this,
Not worth the effort .

If properly planned, there would easily be thousands. My group would be there in a heartbeat, including the full tailgate.

Hey - thanks for the tip. I see that these are just bars in the area that happen to carry PAC12 Network but not necessarily places that are hosting game-watch parties. That's ok, though. I can try and pass this along to the Rutgers Club of New England and see if they want to have a game-watch party there.

I appreciate the info!

Just my general two cents, not knowing much about the particular schedule of the Yard project:

As an engineer who works in NYC's construction management industry, you'd be surprised at just how quickly million- (and even billion-dollar) projects can be accelerated when a deadline is fast-approaching. Contractors usually prefer not to incur the expense of adding multiple additional crews, consistent overtime hours, and/or additional swing/graveyard/weekend shifts until it becomes clear in their schedule's logic that not doing so would delay the substantial completion date, with the risk of liquidated damages being assessed.

Constructing a building's structure is typically very sequential, with excavation, pile/foundation work, structural steel, rebar, and concrete placement/curing/loading all having to follow one another. Once the structural portion of a building's level is complete, finishing work can be subcontracted out to many different firms, a variety of different activities can occur simultaneously, and a lot of indoor progress becomes visible only to workers/engineers/job site visitors.

I'd suspect that the likely portion of work to could drag on into the fall includes punch list items, as well as commissioning-testing of plumbing, electrical, internet/cable/wi-fi systems, etc.
