Washington State

They turned out to be really good & RU almost beat them.

A lot of the company men here acted like that was the worst loss in program history.

I would say that they turned out to be good, not "really good," because they actually got BETTER as the season moved along. They're young secondary, for example, was about 98th in the nation, mid-season, but finished somewhere in the high 60's IIRC. That's known as "coaching up" something we were being told that Flood was doing with this team, however, failed miserably at in reality.

BTW - the team we open up with, Washington, manhandled Wazzou 45-10.

It was still a bad loss, not from the perspective of the quality of the opposition but from the way we defended that final drive.
That loss can be firmly planted on the loss of our DB's and the inexperience of those who filled in.

We should have won, they lost to Portland St. the previous week in their own stadium.
They continued to improve as the season went on..... The opposite of us.

...and many people here acted like nothing was wrong as the program was spiraling out of control right in front of our very eyes.

WSU quarterback did not play vs. Washington. had the backup quarterback.

oh here we go again....

they weren't that good when we played them. They didn't play a good game and RU had the game won but couldn't defend for 90 seconds. No excuse to not win. RU played pretty poorly on offense the first half...that's on the coaching staff with their conservative vanilla play in a game that was going to be a shootout. Part of Fudd's calling card was playing a game on offense like he had a good defense and that was just a flat out stupid philosophy considering how atrocious the defense was.

if the two teams met later in the season, WSU would win something along the lines of 55-24

Not so sure, that game displayed a very ineffective 4 man rush that we really didn't deviate from due to the spread attack.

Even so, we had two TDs called back and an unfortunate play where Hicks ran into Lumpkin and fumbled killing a good drive. Neither team was stopable in the 2nd half.

Espn was using that loss as the basis for us being one of the worst P5 teams ever.

So why did WSU's pass D get better, despite the youth at DB on their roster, as the year went on? Oh...I'll tell you why....COACHING. :flushed:

Leach was on Sirius radio yesterday boasting of his being one of the PAC 10's best. Shoulda beat Stanford, Mighta beat USC, coulda gone to the Rose Bowl....program is going up because of him was the implication...next year they'll just might be all that. Maybe we get the weaker sister in the Huskies.

Should have beaten them. All we had to do was keep them out of the end zone for the last couple of minutes of the game and couldn't do it. Shows the importance of having a solid defense. Never liked this "bend but don't break" crap. Just "STOP" dammit!! Unfortunately that loss and all the other off field shenanigans set the tone for the season.

We're talking about our game against Washington State, not the season. Haven't we bludgeoned that to death enough already?

C'mon we were 9 point dogs or something

this is what some do not understand....last year, at the time of the game last year we were about a 9 or 10 point underdog, so immediately after
the win, it WAS a big deal....

then, as the season wears on, and Washington state does not play as well as expected, our win looks like a mediocre win

but you don't knock fans feeling very good after winning a road game as a nine point dog.....

last year we won three road games where we just about 10 pt dogs....think about that....

Actually the point is very relevant to the discussion. It's a plain simple fact. Sorry buddy.

We almost won due to Janarion Grant plain and simple. Otherwise, we were outplayed and would have lost by two touchdowns

Yeah, if it wasn't for one of our players we would have lost by 2 touchdowns.
