They were 5-7 last year, 3-5 in conference play, and lost to us. Less than a year later with most of the same players they are 5-1, three straight shut outs, and on Game Day. Can it happen at RU? How? Does it require a Harbaugh like coach/personality, or can Kyle Flood do it?

Well it's Michigan too and two ranked teams so not just Harbaugh but of course he doesn't hurt. It can happen here too but we have to win a lot and be ranked, most likely in the top 15 or so.

Then I think playing name programs like MSU/Michigan/OSU etc.. who very likely could be also highly ranked would create the ingredients for the hype necessary for them to possibly come.

The previous coach was a great recruiter. The talent was there, but I think that Harbaugh is a better coach.

Wasn't OSU 6-7 the year before Meyer arrived and went 12-0?
Boise 5-6 in 05, then 13-0 under Peterson in his first year.
Auburn? 2010: National Title. New coach 3-9 in 2011. Malzahn gets the job, 11-1 in 2012.

Coaching matters. A lot.

As said above, UMich had all the talent, they just didn't have a coach that could bring it out. I have a feeling they take it to MSU today. UMich's only loss was its first game by a TD to a playoff contender. I actually think UMich has an outside chance to be a playoff contender.

Let's go Sparty!!!!!! Dantonio will have the State boys ready to play. Michigan fans = Arrogant fans

As some have pointed out they had great talent but a bad coach. Harbaugh is a great coach so this turnaround isn't a surprise. Rutgers doesn't have the talent for a quick turnaround

We have basically played at our talent level. If anything, Flood may have coached them up a bit last year. Last year, Michigan clearly underperformed.

Rutgers needs to invest in its program and start taking football seriously . Then it certainly could happen

Meh, there are teams less talented than RU but have had much better records. Otherwise, RU would have beaten UConn every year when they were in the Big East. I personally think our teams have underachieved for the most part.
