We have a chance this weekend to dig a hole and BURY Penn State. Put them in a tailspin they can't get out of. Make them officially a dumpster fire. I know winning away from home is never easy in the Big Ten, but man if we pull this one off it would be so so sweet.

Pretend like we are the team you thought we were before the Nebraska game. It is a LOT more healthier.

According to BART we have a 25% chance of winning and are 6 point underdogs.

B1G teams are smart (that includes us) and make adjustments and exploit weaknesses.

It is time for B1G teams to force Mathis left and switch on the weave play knowing full well Mathis will penetrate from the top of the key. It was also crystal clear Eugene was 50%. I'd think if Eugene hasn't healed more they will exploit his lack of lateral quickness.

Like it always does it will come down to shooting.

I posted a few games ago the big litmus test was at home vs Indiana, but after thinking about it more.......all 20 games are litmus tests and this one is as important as all other 19.

No expert but would seem no matter how slim it's still the best chance to get a very rare road win.

You are now officially an expert.

I think we get 1 road win this year.

Sat 1-26 A 71 (II) • Penn St. +6, 67-61 25%
Sat 2-02 A 42 (I) • Ohio St. +9.8, 70-60 15%
Sat 2-09 A 69 (III) • Illinois +6.9, 74-67 25%
Wed 2-13 A 58 (I) • Northwestern +7.1, 67-60 22%
Wed 2-20 A 3 (I) • Michigan St. +20.5, 80-60 3%
Sat 3-02 A 22 (I) • Iowa +12.9, 80-67 12%

Thanks sir but the fact I can't explain the difference between a cover 2 and a 1-3-1 zone trap I'll have to say you're being too kind.

Always taught my 10- 12 year old teams the1-3-1. Others teams had no idea how to attack it. Great fast break opportunities too.

I want this really badly, but it feels like this would be PSUs natural rally point. They're 0-8 in conference... are they really THAT BAD? Doesnt seem like it. Now they're at home, against us, and either need to man-up or roll over... if they lose this one I could see a mid-season firing for Chambers.

I think we're the better team, but they have a lot to play for.

A win would put RU 3 full games up over PSU with the tie breaker and 11 games to play (virtually a 4 game lead). It would mean RU has an incredible chance to avoid the BIG basement.
We would also be 2 full games (plus tiebreaker) over Illinois. A win is huge for our hopes of staying out of #14th place

What are examples of basketball defenses
A. 1-3-1 zone
B. Cover 2
C. 1-3-1 zone trap
D. A and C.

I know that one.

(E) None of the above

When I had season tickets the first thing I'd do when I got home was read posts by you, Bac, and a couple others to tell me what I just watched lol.

BART's expected finish
Double Byes
1. MSU 17-3
2. Mich 15-5
3. MD 13-7
4. Pur 13-7

Single Byes
5. Iowa 12-8
6. Wisc 11-8
7. Neb 10-10
8. OSU 9-11

2 out of 3 single Byes
9. Indiana 8-12
10. NW 8-12
11. Minny 8-12

Need to win 5 straight days
12. Illin 6-14
13. RU 5-15
14 PSU 4-16

Depressing to think we could finish 7-13 and still be relegated to play in front of 1,300 fans on Wednesday.

We need to go out there and do ALL 4 things we consistently have trouble doing:

1) Come out of the locker room, both halves, playing as if the game was on the line

2) DO NOT okay with an inferiority complex

3) play with an attitude...I don’t mean play dirty, like many Seton Hall teams of the past have played, but play with the attitude that NOBODY is beating you that day

4) STEP ON THEIR THROATS the last 10 minutes. Show a ****ing killer instinct, one that so many of our teams lack, but that maybe, just maybe, we saw a little bit of the other night.

Penn State has their backs against the wall so they will be ready. We did win there two years ago but we need to dig deep and as another guy said, bury them. No mercy, sweep the leg.

Need to win this but I don't want chambers fired. Not a bad dude and let them struggle.

Yup. It's time to start a winning streak. If we play a smart game this is very doable.

Hopefully, Eugene can go at a reasonable intensity and for enough minutes. Geo needs to play within himself and the Frosh have to contribute as a group. PSU is probably gonna play like a wounded animal fighting for survival but I like our chances for a road win if the above things happen.

Funny... I started using 1-3-1 with my 6th grade team. Kids picked it up relatively fast, but then when they started seeing the point man get steals and run outs, my back side wings stopped dropping back and were always going for steals, so we started getting beaten with it. Steals and run outs are great, but forcing bad shots or not allowing shots at all is better.

You have to have the right kids on the court because its not really a "pack it in tight" kind of defense. Point and back man need to be quick athletic kids.

Say no to kids on iPhones and say no to kids playing zone. Youth basketball should limit or eliminate the use of zones.

I agree it would be the best thing for the kids and it’s been a while since I coached youth basketball. Don’t see it happening though, MAYBE at the rec level if the league imposed it. Otherwise, by the time kids are playing fourth grade travel there’s lots of pressure to win.

I spend a lot of time trying to teach kids man to man (BTW, I'm waiting to be told that I can't say "man to man" and that I must use "person to person"...). Its a lot harder for kids to understand, especially with the lesser skilled. Kids get too focused on THEIR guy and not the ball, helping out etc.

I coach both a travel team and a church league team. Even at the travel level, kids still face guard on the other side of the court from the ball...

This is why it is very important that zone isn't played and extensive practice time is used working on how to play man to man. I used to tell kids they have super powers. Out of 1 eye they can always see the ball and the other eye you can see your man. We spent a lot of time positioning where you are supposed to be when your man is 1 pass and 2 pass away. Next I would have kids use both hands at all time to point at their man and the ball continuously.
