We Have a few commits coming to campus on the 11th. If Ash signs his contract tomorrow he better be here.

Otherwise Hobbs better only give him 49/52 of his agreed upon salary.

Thats for sure....we can't have the recruits thinking their not important enough to the first first time young HC...CRAZY....Don't HC Ash realize THIS is his Team now..

It would be less of an issue if we had stability in the rest of our coaching staff and knew we had some coaches to rely on or an AD who isn't new and has sports experience to recruit even without the HC. But we don't and I wonder how hard a coach who feels he has an axe over his head is going to work to land a recruit.

Wonder if Hobbs puts himself on the coaching staff a la Pernetti to talk to recruits in a football capacity.

Looks like Durkin and Babers going right to work. What would Bo Schembechler say, I want a Rutgers man coaching Rutgers!

Pernetti was a football player. Hobbs is a lawyer. I doubt Hobbs had any of the football recruiting skills Pernetti had.

Yeah but it gave Pernetti the ability to talk to the kids about plans for football it's the freedom to talk to the kids about all plans for football.

I'm gonna say yes he'll be here for any official visit. I also think a good part of the staff will be in place by the Fiesta Bowl, specifically the coordinators.

By kids do you mean recruits? He can talk to the current players about his plans for football all he wants.

I'm sure this will come up when he's introduced tomorrow but let's assume Ash isn't a moron and will be here until we hear different. Besides, what is OSU doing next weekend aside from recruiting? I can't imagine bowl practices would start that early for a NYD bowl.

The guy just went 0-1 in my book. I can't believe this is even an issue. His ass, the minute he signs the contract, should have a legal and moral obligation to his new employer. I want his ass like right now in NJ interviewing assistants, familiarizing with current players, reassuring committed recruits, formulating his vision, meeting local HS coaches, looking for a house to live, trying local pizzas or bagels, etc, etc. One more minute staying in OSU is at the expense of RU as far as I'm concerned. Coaching the bowl game because of loyalty to his players, not burning bridges blah blah blah, GTFO!, literally.

He's got some good points.

As someone's who has been quoted as being groomed to be a head coach, and someone who has always wanted to lead a program that he would have already bought his place of residence. Instead he's planning on coaching as an assistant coordinator in a bowl game that means very little to Ohio State.

It just doesn't seem right.

I posted this in the other thread but I'll post it here too.

I don't like it but I can tolerate it and there are some ancillary benefits. Without knowing how other coaches have done it in the past for sure, I tend to think this first week and half he's going to be working for us pretty exclusively with quite a bit of time here and likely for the official visit. The time I think there will be a split of duties is when there's actual practice and game planning for OSU's fiesta bowl but that's likely later on toward mid month or a little later. After that I could see him back here again until near the actual game and then back there for the game and that's it.

I also think he'll have a good part of his staff in place, specifically the coordinators, by the time the game even happens.

The pub on tv playing ND. Just like Herman last year. The play by play guys repeating "new Rutgers coach" Chris Ash. How many know of him now even though he's the OSU DC. It'll help get his name out and give him more pub. Herman put on a Houston cap right after the title game last year. Milk the publicity as much as you can.

I'd prefer him here but there a some PR benefits.

What happens if ND puts up 45 points on OSU?

"Future Rutgers Head Coach Gets Outcoached by ND Offense". By Steve Politi.

It's not a good idea. He's already got a reputation as a great defensive mind. Let him share his insights with the RU players, coaches and recruits.

Even if OSU shuts out ND, how do you know the media features him as Rutgers new head coach?

Haha yea that would suck, let's hope that doesn't happen. As far as featuring him, they always do that. Have you seen how many times they mention these coordinators during prime games especially the goods ones. It usually happens about a handful of times.

If we're "lucky" we'll get Musberger and there goes "honey badger"... :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

P;ease correct me is I am wrong- but isnt there a dead period coming up in terms of contacting recruits? I expect him to be here but still think there is a dead period. Also his RU players will be hoing home for the holidays and returning on or around the 4 th of JAN, So not much coaching to do. If that is the case then this is a moot point. He needs to get his staff together-

Hee is the answer- There is a dead period.

(1) 12-13-15 Quiet Period. All JUCO recruits who intend to enroll midyear.
(2) 12-14-15 thru 01-13-16 Dead Period *with the following exception (i)
(i) Contact Period. Coaches may have contact with a recruit who has been admitted for midyear enrollment, provided the recruit has signed a National Letter of Intent.
01-31-16 Quiet Period
02-01-16 thru 02-04-16 Dead Period
02-05-16 thru 04-14-16 Quiet Period

or else?....

Doesn't his contract need to be approved by the BOG before it is official? In other words he is not under contract yet and all this BS speculation should cease until he is affirmed, then give him a chance to tell us his plans for the next few weeks. Geez.

What a bunch of drama queens! Sure it would be great if he was full time at RU immediately but the reaction by many here is typical of some RU fans who act like this is a life or death situation. Taking the possibility that Coach Ash may coach in the OSU bowl game like a personal slap in the face is priceless.

No because our new beta, politically appointed AD said oh sure coach for another team for another month.

Reminds me of how RU was played by PSU for years.

I thought Jersey people were tough? Schiano looks so good right now. He had a pair.

I expect Narduzzi at Pitt, Durkin at Maryland, and Babers at Syracuse to pick off a few of our O side of ball commits. Defense I think we'll keep most.

RU , behind the 8 ball, as usual.

Going back and forth is a joke. He should be here full time. This was not the start I was looking for.

RU will be sure to have some lame duck coaches at this event, maybe even secretly recruiting for other teams.
