We need a positive culture

Be a part of the solution. Put the past behind you and do something positive for this program.
We all need to stop the bull and 120% support Ash and his efforts. He can still be recruiting now while working on the Fiesta appearance. Making phone calls and writing emails is probably his focus after his day is done. I can't imagine not working on some sort of recruiting plan this month WHILE preparing Ohio State bowl appearance. I just read the ST coach came from OS. Let's get some more. Let's bring in the midwest attitude that football is king.

I, for one, did not attend Rutgers. I work in Piscataway and joined the bandwagon when the Chop Man showed up. I've gone to some games, proudly have the Block R on my car, in my office, and on our fridge. My son who is 8 (member of the little knights) only wants to go to Rutgers. He went on a field trip to the Geological Museum yesterday and proudly wore his Rutgers shirt hoping to run into some players (sadly not at the Geological Museum, but didn't want to bring him down).

You want to build up a fan base? Start talking up the good points. Stop dwelling in the past. This guy has a vision. This guy talks football with passion. This guy is from one of the top rated football programs and we got him. Let's take advantage of it.

crazy timing of this post...I just posted "what else can we do"

Aside from positive culture, those of us that aren't able to donate 10's of thousands still want to make an impact. What else can be done?

We might not have the Numbers, but I feel like we can overcome that with effort.

I think the biggest thing everyone can, and should, do, is agree that Ash gets five years to fix this mess. That's five years free from any threads about firing him, any clamoring for his head, any of that. Give him a full recruiting class from start to finish, and let's see what he can do. This doesn't mean that people can't disagree with gameday decisions and the like, but we should try to keep the bloodlust at a minimum. If, at the end of five years, the program is worse off or stagnant, then people can get the ball rolling on that stuff.

You want positive? Stop attacking fans that have different opinions with you. Opinions that are ridiculous will wean themselves out. On a bigger scale, the true test of a democracy is how it values minority opinion. Saying yes yes to everything and censoring opposing opinions is how (on a smaller scale) cults and (on a bigger scale) dictatorships are born.

There is a big difference between being an optimist and being a Baghdad Bob. And there is also a big difference between constructive criticism and whining. Problem with many is they can't tell the difference.

You're wrong! :D

Just try having a positive attitude. That always helps. We can start by supporting our current players and recruits that have pledged their time to the program. We should also learn to trust the coaches and who they put on the field. Of course there is no way we can all agree 100% with every decision but booing these kids, while they are actually having a very good game, has got to stop. I can assure you that the best players will be on the field. We have guys already waiting to pounce on one upcoming starting position which is always the most criticized by the average Joe. Typically it is easy to blame the coach and blame the QB when you don;t know anything else. I ask that we all do our best to support those two guys the most. Not blindly but they are working to win games as much and probably way more than anyone else out there. Give them your support. Trust me the coaches and players know more than we do by a lot. I know more than most of our fans but not as much as these kids and coaches do by a long shot. They are literally LIVING RU football. I am just rooting for them.

As much as I get upset by a loss (as much as anyone trust me) I will never publicly criticize these kids or our coaches. To me that is easy to do and is a weakness that many have. I ask those who cannot control themselves to go out to a bar and yell and scream about whoever you are pissed at but don't do it in our stadium or on this board. That little but of self control (if you want to call it that) will go a long way in stopping the negative culture that we have here at Rutgers.

Donate whatever you can. Time, money whatever you can spare. Show up to the games and get there early if possible. OSU and Nebraska outnumbered us early and at the end of those games. Of course everyone stayed to the end of Michigan St so there's that. Play great and our fans our very, very good.

Bring friends to the game! Even if they come to 1-2 games a year that is a way to grow this thing. But most of all enjoy this game for what it is.

I would love to see "WEAR RED TO THE GAME" back and believe, in a its own weird little way, is a B1G part of building a positive culture (and was when Greg had it put on all tickets...). Too many people, even in nice weather, wearing white, black, grey, etc., instead of RED, the past couple of seasons.

I've seen RU fans in yellow, orange, green at game this season.

Wholeheartedly agree with the OP, but what do you all do when Laviano is named starting QB again? Something tells me your positivity goes out the window.

its truly a fresh start, we have the whole Greg bloodline gone..from Flood to the tired mantras to the small mom and pop Rutgers man thinking...its a breath of fresh air and for once the board has nothing to complain about at least until the first loss

How come they stopped giving free red t-shirts to the students?

Wait just a minute here. My wife and I donate money each year which is then matched by her company to athletics we pay our $250 seat donation on 6 season tickets, ticket prices, parking passes and pay for season tickets to wrestling. We show up to every home game(except the FCS game don't like the scrimmage game) while many sold there tickets to MSU, Ohio St.and Nebraska fans or didn't even bother to show up. We also travel to at least one away game a year. But if I disagree with something I see with the program and post it here I'm part of the problem. You have got to be friggin kidding me with this. I do enough and contribute plenty I'll say whatever I want Thank You.

A positive culture allows discussion and justified criticism. What we need to eliminate are all the agenda's from the pro/anti Mulcahy, Pernetti, Schiano, Flood, Herman and Barchi camps. It's a rare opportunity to stand united behind our new Coach Ash and AD Hobbs.

this this this

we have as much of a clean slate as we will get around here...although EJ with hoops is a big problem...the fanbase is pretty much unified right now and it needs to stop going down that road toward faction spliiting. Hopefully the Pernetti tards who selfishly hurt this school have put their petty differences aside now that Hobbes is AD
