We'll be hard-pressed to break 5K fans for Michigan St. game

the falloff in interest is dramatic...here are some attendence numbers from the Bannon years...earlier season non conference games

12/5/98: FDU 7,420
11/14/98: Wagner 7,218
12/99: Maryland Baltimore County 7,109
1/25/99: Lafayette 6,903
12/27/98: Lehigh 6,521
12/18/99: Elon 6,101

all 6 of those schools dregs that should not attract any crowds yet they will all draw more than tomorrows game against a top 10 school....thats what decades of losing will do to a fanbase.

Great post. Really puts the current situation in perspective. But I have no doubt that if we do get good, the RAC will become a hot ticket. Pikiell seems to be the guy to make it happen.

On a side note, I'm super pissed at myself because I forgot to search my basement for a teddy bear this morning. I won't have time to go back home after work so I'll be empty handed. I hope a lot of fans will remember to bring one.

I think I'm a last minute ticket buyer for this game. Was going to get a 200 seat from SK.com... should I scalp instead? any advice?

The biggest reason for low attendance is the lack of Interest in college athletics in NJ.All the lame excuses that are said become gospel on a annual basis. My counter argument is that there are approximately 9 million people in NJ and Rutgers can't sellout a 8000 seat RAC which is rather conclusive data to show non interest.

No. The biggest reason is we haven't made, or come close to making the tourney since 1991.

The casual fan isn't paying attention to the rebuild that Pikiell is working and unfortunately the last 3-5 years have killed off a bunch of die hard season ticket holders.

It will take another 1-2 years but once Pikiell gets this thing going the place will have consistent sell outs.

Also, a 7pm weeknight game is not convenient or easy to make for probably 3/4s of the state. I went to the FSU game straight from work last week at 5:30pm and didn't get back home until after 11pm and clocked 130 miles. Pretty big commitment for a basketball game.

This. I'm a casual RU basketball fan and I work in the city for I can't make the game. RU fans have been beaten down. They look at this MSU game and think there's no shot we win this game so why bother. Until we can prove that we have a competitive B1G team, you're not going to see much interest. Fans will come once this program shows it has the ability to make the NCAA tourney, but don't blame RU fans. Blame the incompetence of past administrations to care about this basketball program. When the program hasn't made an NCAA tourney in 26 years and hasn't come close in over a decade, what do you expect?

Contrary to the first quotes post popularity of college basketball and football for that matter has been growing in the north east. The problem is Rutgers hasn’t been relevant in the national picture (or regional for that matter). People complain about scheduling but in the last two years how many victories do we have in relevant games? We fight tooth and nail to scrape small victories from the other programs fighting for some semblance of relevancy the same way we do.

That’s why we have to schedule how we are now. Prop up the aesthetics of the record to attract the slightly better ball players we need to break into that next tier of success.

From a purely attendance issue, I do think not playing our geographic peers hurts. Regardless of record there is no doubt attendances increased for Uconn Cuse Pitt St. John’s SHU etc. Hopefully our big ten foes further west overtime draw similar to the likes of Cincinnati. But Rutgers has to be relevant.

7:30 would be much, much better for me..... but to the schedule makers it probably is a better fit at 7:00, for games on tv after that.

Don't forget when the RAC opened, many games were at 8 pm.
This was partly because NJPTV (later NJN) carried the lottery drawing at 7:57pm which could not be moved.

I would scalp and if you think to much, buy at the window. 100 level seats are 85 and in limited quantity online. But should be available outside for less.

How is your frontcourt? This is where MSU crushes people. Our guards are fairly good but we have an NBA front court.

Our PFs are on the smaller side, both 6-7. One of them (Freeman, who starts) is a great rebounder but struggles to score against B1G teams in the paint, and is a very good shot blocker. The other (Omoruyi) has better moves in the paint and is a pretty good finisher, but not as good as a rebounder.

Our starting C is a 6-9, 237 pound freshman who was a 4-star recruit. He has a nice mid-range jumper and is very energetic. The backup (Doorson) is 7-0, 275, but he's more of just a space eater who might be good for a put-back or two per game, but not much offensive game.

We have another PF/C (Candido Sa) who is 6-10 with a long wingspan, and is a good shot blocker but not much offense. I think we'll see more of him tonight for defensive purposes.

Not saying anything surprising here, but you guys have the CLEAR edge in the front court. I will say this about RU though - we are a very good rebounding team, so we might be able to limit the number of second chances you get.

I would add that our decent rebounding numbers are mostly effort based. RU is a very hard working team, but will obviously be outmanned tonight. If for whatever reason, MSU is asleep at the wheel, this could be a game well into the 2nd half (under 10pts). If you guys are clicking then it will be a blowout from the start...

Seems like you at least have size and bodies. MSU will lose a few conference games and when they do it will be because the other team limited our interior scoring and offensive boards on an off shooting night.

There are words to describe you which are not said in polite company.

Nothing left in 100 level and only singles remain for the 200 level for the Seton Hall game.

300 level tickets remain but they are moving quick.
Don't wait til next week if you want to go.
