Kyle Flood is a really bad recruiter. He can't even convince the brother of a Rutgers player (Hester) to come here. For god's sake, he has a sick mother and you can't convince the kid to stay home. Flood is absolutely one of the worst recruiters. I do't see how we can be competitive with the big boys with these recruiting classes that he is bringing in. I am sure they are great character guys, but this team is going to get manhandled in the next 2-3 years.

When a player that talented has so many schools stumbling over themselves trying to get his commitment it becomes a crap shoot whether he chooses Rutgers or not. All those other schools are promising the world to him. Rutgers tells the truth to him. It kind of sucks doing things the right way but when we become champions it will feel real good.

Based on the logic of the OP we should probably begin whining about the fact that we lost to OSU next October too. It hasnt happened, will it happen? Odds may point that way. While he is the coach lets support him, and maybe criticize him after the fact.

We are doing really well with preferred walk ons

Isn't he one of the guys who says it doesn't matter till signing day when a kid does verbal to us? If that is the case he should zip it until February.

Alexander has always been 100% Nebraska. All the rest is just noise.

He's never been there. He may not care for it - these things happen. Best thing we can do is just let it go, for now.

All those other schools are promising the world to him. Rutgers tells the truth to him.

Actually, if you read thousands of recruiting articles/interviews...many say each "sell" is just like all the others...Players decide to sign at schools for hundreds of different reasons...as its not an easy decision since the sales pitch is so similar at each Institution and Program.

What is the B10 policy of conference transfers? If this kid doesn't crack the 2 deep soon enough he will look to transfer.

Kids favorite team is Nebraska, once offer came he was good as gone.
They Are the ONLY school telling him he's a LB at the next level

He's kind of kid who once his mind is made isn't changing, he'll convince himself Nebraska is everything he wanted when he visits.

No single recruit choosing another school bothers me at all. However when you step back over the last few years and see we got no one, none of the top players in NJ it is certainly is frustrating.
I thought back in November of 2012 that the future would be brighter. Right now it's as dim as it always has been.

Define crap shoot - because that generally implies kind of a random chance. But we dont have a random chance. We have a chance that is right now highly correlated.

I agree with this but to be fair we really can't judge until Feb

I used it loosely I admit. The more schools that offer the less chance you have for a commit. If Rutgers was the only offer there is a high chance he will come. If RU and Penn State offer, you still have a great chance for the commit. If a dozen schools offer then who knows which he will choose, a crap shoot.

There have had 3 recruiting class since the Big Ten announcement. Not a single bump in recruiting in any of them. In fact you can argue that it has become worse. Certainly I thought Rutgers would have won one or two of these battles since that great November day. However they continue to get shut out. I'm beginning to believe that great day in 2012 wasn't as great as I hoped it was. It's awesome to be in the Big Ten but becoming better because of it hasn't occurred.

It seems to me that as many, if not more siblings choose different schools as those who choose the same one but let's not miss any excuse to bitch.

We are both on here too often to rehash those tales. For me, this is the year to judge him. You know enough people to have heard the stories behind some of these losses and if not you have my email.

I agree that it gets frustrating. On the other hand, I see a significant improvement this year. And it is so BS to keep going back to say how there have been 2 previous years with knowing we were going to be in the B1G. There were the mishaps that happened that cause a problem for 2 classes and the reality of the B1G just didn't set in until we were physically playing the games. Keeping in mind that it isn't real until it is real and also that everyone was telling these kids we were going to be a joke in the B1G.

Previous two year- yes, I was disappointed in many things recruiting but also realized there were reasons that contributed to it. This is the first "real" year to judge him fairly on by saying we have the power of the B1G. The current verbals are very good verbals to start with prior to OV's and there is no doubt it gets even better, with or without the big names everyone wants to see.

Disagree. We finally have the right mix of talent and depth at QB & RB. We haven't had that since the Hart&Teel / Leonard&Rice days. If we can put up some points, I think the stunt/blitz heavy scheme we run on D has a chance to really shine.

Sorry, but it will be too late then. We as fans and Alumnus must hold our Coaches and Institution accountable. Because as we are a product of said institution, and thus represent them, they in turn have a duty to uphold our expectations of that institution.
I know a unique perspective, but valid never the less.

I have heard stories on individuals and like I said I do not judge on any single recruit. However, with all that has come since 11/20/12 Rutgers has completely whiffed on the NJ top recruiting trail. I don't know why so many think this will be the year other than loyal optimism. Why is this year going to be different?
I understand sports optimism...I been an RU fan for life but there is a point you have to stand back and say they should do better not I hope they do better. We are all like Cubs fans, wait until next year is our motto.

That I agree with as well. If you do get truly top talent I don't care where they come from. You just think it would be easier to get homegrown talent.
Finding hidden gems is nice but we all know that talent wins football games and Rutgers need more talent to compete.

This is the fly in the ointment. The fact is, it's not easier, for a number of reasons.

Ya'll need to chill out. Just wait til 2016, Flood is gonna kill it. Just wait and see...

Donations = expectations. By all indications or expectations are the lowest in the P5. We outperform expectations every year by a wide margin.

I can understand the frustration. But we're this board is going to take miserable to the next level if we have to post an individual thread for every kid that decides not to choose Rutgers.

Well that's been happening for 3 years. As a Head coach one of your main priorities is recruiting players to come play for you and Flood absolutely blows at it.

He's kind of kid who once his mind is made isn't changing, he'll convince himself Nebraska is everything he wanted when he visits.

What happened to that kid who's favorite team growing up was Rutgers and when the offer came he jumped on it. Oh yeah, that 4 star RB (Barkley) changed his mind and went to PSU after a guy who can recruit came calling. Wait, now you will go hang your hat on one or two recruits that Flood hung onto after Franklin tried to swoop in during the last month of recruiting - and really, Flood's close on these types should be about 400% higher given the head start.

You've got a spin for everything. I can see the new one coming already with the "going to judge the class and not the zip codes." Buying some time until the end of the year, when I get to hear about all the below the radar guys with P5 offers (of course the only schools REALLY recruiting them will be the low tier P5 guys) and the guys without P5 offers who (insert spin here).
