Just amazing how well Wright has that program rolling. I really wish he came here all those years ago. But I wonder if he would have had nearly the same type of success here that he's had at Villanova. So many of the Villanova fans that I run into are wealthy and support their program with large donations. I saw a ton of BMW'S, MERCEDES and CADILLACS in the parking lot today. So many of the RU fans I run into are regular middle class people and I'm not sure what they're donating if at all. It would be great if we had more people like the Towers stepping up, even if they're like the Towers and not alumns. I think Pike has what it takes to get it done here. I just hope when we start winning the alumni will step up financially and help take this program to the next level.

I was there, too. My neighbor gave my son and I two free luxury suite tix. Not bad! All you can eat food and drink, plus down go the Hall! Myles Powell loses his cool, too. Ha. What a punk. Hall unravels in the final 10 minutes lol. Good times. But even with the suite experience, I'll take the RAC any day of the week and twice on Saturdays. Sure, the place got loud a few times, but college teams playing in NBA arenas? Nah.

There are many Cadillacs, Mercedes, Audis on the parkway and turnpike with block Rs. Rutgers has wealthy Alumni and they have MORE alumni. Rutgers just did not do a good job connecting them with athletics when they were students.

The RAC is such a great environment I tried to explain to my kids how loud the RAC can get but unfortunately they've never been there when it was a good game and we played well. Nova usually only plays there 3 tines a year as their facility is being renovated.

I watched the game and Powell again instigated an incident. He shoved Divencenzo (spelling ?) with an elbow. Even both announcers said he should have been thrown out of the game. He is a bit of a loose cannon as he decked Omoruyi in our game when he drove with about 2 seconds left. He also got involved in a game right after that game when he got thrown out after jumping in on a scrum that Delgado was involved in and he came down hard on a player on the other team. He and Rodriguez both have a quick fuse.

Can't imagine he wouldn't have jumped to Nova the minute they came calling.

I watched it on TV. I kept thinking "we beat SHU & we would have a closer game"

Coach P will have us battling NOVA,,head to head in a few years

Things fell apart for the Hall after the Powell cheap shot. Up to that point they were competing well. The key for Nova is getting Booth back. I didn't realize they have another kid Samuels who has been out that could contribute down the stretch as well. While Jay seems to only want to play 7 most games, depth is the only issue I see with that team. The Hall always tries to rough them up a bit so it was a good test for them.

Would love to hear the reactions from this board if the starters foul situation for both teams was 17 to 5 ?

I thought the Hall played well for 30 minutes and the Powell thing had zero to do with the Nova run.

Spellman going out and knocking down 3 3's was what did it.

Former coworker is a Nova season ticket holder and he believes this is Wright's best team. What happens in tourney another story but they've scored 75 plus in 17 straight games-----that's an amazing stat.

Rutgers admins, board, and faculty completely ignored and stuck their nose up to big time athletics for DECADES. We had plenty of opportunities but it was the opinion of those with decision making power that we'd be better off only focusing on academics.

That attitude still even strongly persists today I sense.

Unfortunately, they were wrong. Look at what big time athletics has done for every other school. It has transformed the school from every angle (academics, investment in campus, strength and volume of candidates, school pride, donations, etc.)

Meanwhile, while those "athletic" schools invested across the board and attracted better talent. RU essentially stood still and didn't investment in anything in NB for a long long time. Perception soured, lead to --> donations never came, lead to --> rankings fell, lead to --> the quality of student relatively has declined, and the ones that did come had little ongoing connection post graduation.

I agree that Spellman played his best game and was deadly from 3. I thought Powell became a bit unhinged after the altercation. I don't recall the specific score at the time but it did not seem to go well for the Hall from that point forward.

Absolutely agree. He has roots there and the way the alumni take care of the program financially and the pride they show is outstanding. Just a really attractive situation on The Main Line.

Different type of demographics with the Villanova alumni. Agree that RU has done a poor job with connecting students with athletics, because we've stunk most of the years.

The parochial schools do things the right way when it comes to donations: they start you off IMMEDIATELY out of school, asking for very small sums of $$$ typically on a quarterly basis, like maybe even $100/quarter. What this does is get their alumni accustomed to donating and, each year, adding maybe 25% to the previous year (just using random figures), so that it's not overwhelming. Everybody I know who went to BC or Nova was trained to give back, as such, and the amounts they give now - regardless of how much - are almost an "afterthought" to them.

Have mentioned this story before when this topic comes up...

Have a niece who went to one of “those” type of schools. At her Masters graduation the last speaker was a woman from her alumni association and I’ll never forget what she said:

“We expect when you leave here to learn, earn and return.”

And by “return” she wasn’t talking about buying a sweatshirt at the bookstore. ;)

While that's true to a point that isn't how the facilities at private schools get financed either academic or athletic.

Not on the athletic side but I serve on a fund raising committee for ND and the people we actively call on are $ 250 ,000 and up donors or we don't call on them.

Of course.

Was just pointing out they ask you (regardless of the amount) before you’re even out the door at those schools where here, not so much.

Understood it's just a way to get them started without ever having to "think" about it UNTIL they're in their prime donating years (or just stupid rich early on ....lol).
