Typically they're on salary until the end of the school year June 1 and then they are not retained for the following year. It can suck to be a journey-man assistant college coach like Cox, Fred Hill Jr. and Shoes.
Probably expecting a quick turnaround...which would mean it's not an assistant with a team going places in any tournament this year
Wouldn't be surprised to see a new HC named very soon and that's why Hobbs isn't going the Interim route.
RU probably has been having third party talks with those close to those Hobbs is considering as Jordan's replacement even before Eddie was let go and now has an idea of who would want the job and what it would take to get them.
So Hobbs might feel it's best not to name an Interim because in a couple of days ( week at most) that person will be let go.
That's my opinion.
God I hope you're right Nuts! Hurley would be a HUGE mistake. Gut feeling he will never be more than a mediocre coach andw we can't afford another one of those.

Any other coach we would want I would hope would be coaching for at least another week if not more!
It does sound like that is the direction - Sendek may be what we need at this stage. I also like quick - no strung out search - always a circus for us and embarrassing. I'd be happy to have it done Monday or Tuesday - get him working and end the speculation where the pundits rant about what a disaster RU basketball is. As far as the current assistants I wouldn't want any of them other than maybe Shoes.
Because it goes hand-in-hand with everything Hawk has been saying for a good week now:
- things were already more-or-less underway
- Sendek apparently out "scouting" for assistant coaching talent
...etc, etc.
Hey I could be wrong but this is the "gut" that tweet give me right now.
I can't wait to look forward to the time that we have to fire Sednek because he's only helping us win 19 games a year.
I will not be disappointed with Sendek - he's in my top 3
But change my 'shoes' and bring in a well-received HC and we likely get much better recruits from top to bottom? Am I far off here (depending on the hire)?
I wouldn't mind keeping Shoes on as a recruiting assistant but I would want to clean house with the rest. Shoes would keep Thiam here.
You don't keep a coach, head or assistant, for a class IMHO.
I would love to have a coach by next week and have it be Sendek because if we are not going with him that means its going to be drawn out for 2-3 weeks
Nothing was happening next week anyway. The kids left on spring break today. Hopefully this will be done next week and the new coach can meet the team next Sunday night / Monday morning.
He is nothing like doorson. He can shoot and shoot from three. Much more athletic and skinnier. Their games are nothing alike
