We're Going Bowling!!

I'm not sure its that. I think it has more to do with BIG team rotations and bowl tie ins. Iowa, Wisconsin, MSU, Maryland and Minny have all went for successive Pinstripe Bowls. PSU, OSU and Michigan will all likely be going to higher level bowls. That likely leaves Nebraska or Rutgers as next on the Pinstripe rotation list.

However, the league rule for most of its bowl games states that they will have at least five different teams over the six-year contract period. This is the fourth year of that deal. If Iowa were to play in the Citrus Bowl this season, It would mean that the Hawkeyes, along with the Boilermakers and Northwestern, would be locked out for the remainder of the contract term.

Oddly, Wisconsin is not eligible for two of the Big Ten bowls this season because the Badgers are the most recent participant in the Guaranteed Rate (2022) and Las Vegas (2021) bowls. Iowa is not projected in the Citrus Bowl again this week, but this time it is because of the Hawkeyes' 12-10 loss at home to Minnesota on Saturday.

If you have watched James Madison this season, you have likely heard the announcers whine relentlessly about the fact that the Dukes are not eligible for the postseason despite being 7-0 after their win at Marshall. JMU -- like Sam Houston and Jacksonville State -- is in its second year of transition from FCS to FBS. As such, none of the three are eligible for postseason play. Kennesaw State is in its first year of transition this season.

However, the rules for filling bowl games when there are not enough eligible teams give them a chance at the postseason. Teams in the second year of transition with a 6-6 record or better are in line ahead of 5-7 teams when it comes to filling the bowl games. That is why I've had James Madison projected to a bowl game for most of this season.

We can be home for Christmas activities and attend Pinstripe later that week. I'm not driving nor flying to Detroit on holiday weekend
Pinstripe is a glorified extra home game for the players, staff, and fans.
Vast majority want the Bowl experience. In a baseball stadium in the Bronx in the Winter is not that experience. FWIW .. Ford Field in Detroit is an excellent “football” venue. Plenty of hotels , Bars, and Restaurants within walking distance. And the Casino 2 blocks away was great.

Not it’s not.
I’ve been to both Bowls. Pinstripe is worst than Detroit. By far.
Nope, Detroit way worse than Pinstripe. NYC is the greatest city in the world and we had a ton of fun at both Pinstripes and most fans don't have to figure out travel arrangements and conflicts, like they do for a remote bowl game. Sure, Yankee Stadium sucks for football, but I'll take Pinstripe over Detroit and some other locations.

This. I think a few of our die hard fans who are planning to travel to wherever the bowl is (which is awesome by the way) are misconstruing their own intentions with those of the overwhelming majority. Very few of our fans would cancel their Christmas plans to go to Detroit to play a MAC team.

We have our own opinions
Have you ever been to the Motor City Bowl ? If not you can’t make an objective assessment.

Wonder if the players want to travel to a Bowl in an NFL Stadium or play locally a baseball stadium?
I have seen numerous players get hurt on the crap surface at Yankee Stadium.

I never said there aren’t also some cons in not getting to travel. All in - it’s not really an opinion, but simply a factual statement that we would have overwhelmingly less fans attend a noon bowl on 12/26 in Detroit than we would any other bowl.

Even if you don’t care about that - there’s also almost no chance that the Pinstripe game wouldn’t be against an ACC team or ND as it’s a top tier affiliation for them. A draw of BC or Syracuse would be crappy though. On the other hand, the MAC will likely fill their Quick Lane quota this year with a Bowling Green or Buffalo type.

Fire Schiano. Bench Wimsatt. What am I forgetting?
Better not rain or no one will come to the bowl.

Some will wait to come in until the second quarter

Others will leave at the half

😎

The pinstripe bowl should be renamed the vomit bowl. It's the worst venue I've ever had the horror of visiting for a football game in my life. It's an embarrassment to the Big Ten that they have a bowl game in a baseball stadium. When watching football, people want to watch in a football stadium with a reasonable field surface and reasonable viewing distances and angles. They don't want their "midfield" first row seats 50 yards from the sideline and facing some weird angle off to the corner of an endzone.

It sucks. It's the worst. It's like having an angry porcupine shoved up your butt.

Oh yeah, and being near NYC is irrelevant. People in NJ can visit NYC any time the want. There's nothing special or good about forcing Rutgers fans to drive and/or train through the city to the Bronx where they're lucky if they aren't mugged and, you know, subjected to having an angry porcupine shoved up their butts.

Other than that, though, it's a great place to watch a football game. 😒

Come on fd. Been 10 years since we have been in a bowl game. I don’t follow the forum that close but pretty sure you were not thinking we were going bowling this year, and if you did pretty sure you were not thinking anything above an entry level bowl. i wish we could have done more, but having the PS to at least say we are a legitimate bowl team playing in the the best conTerence in college football is our starting point.

Again, the point is the Pinstripe is R bowl, so Mildy's post deserves to be booed.
But again, that’s not what I asked:

What would you pick, if you could, as a your own preference for a non NY6 B1G bowl:

1. Music City (Nashville)
2. Las Vegas
3. Pinstripe (Bronx)
4. Guaranteed Rate (Phoenix)
5. Quick Lane (Detroit)

I gave mine…#1 for location and date

Love the one you're with, which is why I'm booing Mildy's post trashing the Pinstripe.
