saw that sarkisian was one at Alabama and it will help smooth his transition to OC. Lockskey was one too.

What can and can't they do? What do they actually do? Can they interact with player?

Basically a way for the football factories to keep talented coaches on payroll without violating the coaching staff limit. From this thread on /r/cfb:
GAs are the only one's who are allowed to do on field coaching and drill work. All the other QCs/Analysts are not supposed to do on field coaching.

There is no limit on "Non-Coaching Sport Specific" staff, this includes QC/Analysts, Recruiting or Player Personnel staff, Operations staff.

11.7.4 Bowl Subdivision Football. [FBS] There shall be a limit of one head coach, nine assistant coaches and four graduate assistant coaches who may be employed by an institution in bowl subdivision football. (Revised: 4/28/11 effective 8/1/12)

Edit: 7 Year rule: 11.01.3 Coach, Graduate Assistant—Bowl Subdivision Football. The individual is not required to be enrolled in a specific graduate degree program unless required by institutional policy. The following provisions shall apply: (Adopted: 1/11/89, Revised: 1/10/91, 11/1/01 effective 8/1/02, 1/10/92, 1/16/93, 1/9/96 effective 8/1/96, 5/25/06, 12/15/06, 1/8/07 effective 8/1/07, 11/1/07 effective 8/1/08, 1/16/10 effective 8/1/10, 4/29/10 for new appointments, 1/15/11 effective 8/1/11, 4/26/12, 8/21/12, 1/19/13 effective 8/1/13, 10/21/13)

They shake hands with recruits and their families during on-campus visits, and impress visitors that the program is big enough and well-heeled enough to afford "program greeters" and staff members with serious connections but no serious job assignment. Basically a sham job title. Often a soft landing for coaching friends and people connected with recruits who could help the program. Only for programs with deep pockets.

They esentially help with game planning, breakdown film, grade offensive performace, help in meetings and film sessions. They are not allowed to coach on field or recruit off campus but other than that they do all the same things as a regular coach does .

Overkill by deep pocket programs. These analysts come and go. Non-essential creampuff stuff and good will. Not missed when they leave. Comfortable paycheck.

A way to have another coach that does t count against the coaching allotment.

Must be nice to have a former P5 coach as another resource. Especially when that coach is now your new OC. Plug and play.
