This looks like a lot of beef but do we have 5 to form a cohesive unit?

I know this isn't about Firing Ash/Hobbs, how bad we suck or will suck...sorry if if offends

I suspect it will look something like this:

We need Clark and O'Neil to live up to their billing.
If they live up to their hype and billing, Left to Right you would have:
O'Neill, Clark, Maetti, Jackson, Sutton

2nd:
Vretman; Lonsdorf, Howson, Venesky, TBD

But that requires living up to the billing and then some.

looks like art is going to be in a lot of pain again

Is Clark no longer a tackle option? Haven't heard much about him, but inthougI he came in as a tackle.

I was hoping Seymour would graduate, he is liability on the line. Hopefully they give someone the opportunity to beat him out.

Is Sutton staying at TE?

Vretman, O'neal and sutton all look like they will be good players going forward. Maetti and jackson have already proven themselves. We'll see who steps after that. There is a lot of competition so that should help.

Rutgers gave up a total of 16 sacks for the year. Tied for #23 best in the nation with Georgia and Ohio State.

The O-Line isn't as good as the 2006 O-Line but this narrative that they are terrible is not true.
I agree they played well at times, the QB's inexperience and the WR's inability to get open didn't help either.

The WRs being bad is another wrong narrative. They are not the 6'5" Kenny Britt pro-style WRs but they are not as bad as people are making them out to be.

Round hole (WRs) / square peg (offensive style) + "epic-cally" bad QB play + Pacheco not playing enough = the offense you saw in 2018.

Interesting. Don’t think that ranking tells the whole story.

Would be interesting to see where RU ranks if they combine sacks + (hurries, knockdowns, late hits against and interceptions thrown).

Seems like Art had plenty of time against the lower half of the schedule and still had a hard time.

I agree he had a hard time...it seemed like at times he hurried his throws...expecting the pressure to hit him...but he really had a second or 2 more than he expected...could have been difference of WR's getting open (I'm not going to assume WR's would have caught it :)

I just hope AS overcomes some of the eagerness to throw the ball early....granted he was pounded sometimes so he might be shell shocked...but he has to make better decisions to avoid those INT's which are killer for the offense

You are correct - Maietti and Jackson have already proven themselves. However, I would suggest that their play has proven that upgrades are needed to get to a mid-B1G line. Now, have they maxed out or can they improve under Blazek and Parker in the off-season? Or do the younger guys with supposedly higher ceilings, like O'Neal, Vretman, Sutton and (maybe) Bowles pass them on the depth chart?

Or does Ash churn the staff and a new OL coach sees things differently?

Yeah, he has his red shirt senior year left.
Sometimes he makes a good play and then later has you shaking your head like WTF

Yes, but I think all the INTs by AS negated all that goodwill

With the receiving corps you need a mobile QB. O line gets too much blame on here.

Tight ends looked good. Wide outs WTF. Seems like most schools can find a possession receiver even if it’s a walk on.

It’s mostly on the coaches. QB should of never been out there. Was obvious.

There has to be someone on the roster that can get open on a quick slant and catch a pass.

Mobile QB. A couple shifty possession receivers. And the offense would of been so much better.

Ash is clueless. I doubt that will change.

We don't have the big uglies to run a pro style right now. Need guys who can both be road graders for the RB and brick walls to give the QB time for passing plays to develop... and they need to do it against some of the best DLines in the country in the B1G East.

That means 6-8 guys on the roster who have the HS expectations and offer lists of someone like Micah Clark, and who have been in the S&C program at least two years. Our recruiting hasn't supported it, and even if it did we wouldn't see the results for a couple of seasons after they hit campus.

The lacking on the line is compounded by having greenhorn QB and WRs. This isn't going to suddenly improve next year.

I tried to be sympathetic to them, but the sheer number of drops, inability to win 50/50 balls, inability to get any separation on a consistent basis, and just lack of athleticism compared to the the DBs they were up against, just has got the current WRs in the camp of "unless you prove otherwise, this job is not for you." Hopefully they work their butts off and prove otherwise, but right now, no benefit of the doubt.

Do you think he won't be back due to off field matters or mentally he is not there yet (because he seems to have the talent)?

He has a lot of work to do in the mental aspect of the game. I expect his brother to compete for PT.

That would be an interesting switch --- did not think Beatty would compete for any time other that FG or XP block unit. Would be nice if he were in the mix for possible first 8-9 on the OL and is a realistic B1G level lineman.

The WRs had too many drops. The qb and oc had zero confidence in them towards the end of the year. When Blackshear is your leading receiver, you’ve got WR issues.
