It sounds like he's not going to Missouri. Why isn't on the list for Rutgers?

As 1869 said the interest has to be mutual and as Nuts said he would be looking to go to Happy Valley from day one.

Wasn't Schiano already coaching at Miami when the PSU gig opened? I have to think PSU contacted him but the most smoke was definitely around Golden and Richt...not that either of them even interviewed. I have no idea.

You don't think Golden would be desperate to get over to PSU. Imagine if he pulls out an 8-4 season and Franklin continues to implode, he will be submitting his resume and making calls every week.

Weren't people on this board calling Rhule the worst coach in Div. 1 just a year and a half ago?

He was 6-6 after a 2-10 season.
This season was the stars aligning right and luck or he is a good HC.
Will find out the next chapter ( next year's team) if he's as good as Owl fans think,
or just a flash in the pan.

Steve Addazio left with a 4-8 record and Rhule couldn't top that his first season.

Temple had a ton of seniors this season. Let's see what next year looks like.

Yes, 22 seniors. 10 of which were big time contributors.

MR and his staff did a great job of stockpiling. Some of them played in 2014. They were redshirted this season.

I expect our D to take a step back, at least until the youngsters get settled in and become comfortable in their roles. Could take 3, 4, 5 games but at the end of the day, I think we'll still be looking at an 8-4 type of year.

He is not leaving Temple for anything less than Penn State or a SEC job and he even turn that down, so.... PSU or bust.

What if Ruhle goes 5-7 next season. Will he still be a hot candidate ?

Interesting that some would choose to say Rhule's success was due to luck and the stars aligning. Meanwhile, he was able to do much more with less while RU was able to do much less with more. Keep in mind that he coaches Temple. In what universe does Temple have the resources to pull off upsets over PSU? And whatever excuse you can come up with for that, keep in mind we played the same PSU team that made us look like a mid-major. Rhule is an upgrade over Flood regardless of what you think of him.

Looks like they are correct.........

I'm sure they are. I don't care...I dont want him at Rutgers anyway. Its just funny how defensive you guys all get. Like posting here is going to change anything. Rutgers may throw a ton of cash at him, and may take it or perhaps more likely he will not. But, you all know deep down he is going to go somewhere ... if he doesnt, and he stays and the team is bad next year...well, he is an idiot when it comes to business, and you may have him for a long time.

By the way, I'm a big fan of Temple...went to a couple games this year. Lots of excitement. I wish you guys the best, but there are certain realities in the coaching market that hold true 95% of the time.

Rhule has the AAC championship this weekend - is probably got everything that would generate chatter - on hold until Sunday - If he beats Houston he could catch a great wave & ride it into a great spot
- it is a gamble - prime spots might be gone by then - but it may be a gamble that he has decided to take ....and guess he figures worst case, he could make a move next year...
plus - if he was seen actively grasping for another spot & they lost, he could get tagged as a me-me-me guy (for the rest of his career) who got distracted with self-advancement and cost his team a championship

Next year when Franklin is fired, Rhule will be near the top of the list

If I was a coach looking to move I sure as heck would not wait for the Penn state job to open...... My guess is that they give Frankin at least 2 maybe 3 years to get it going.... Which is a long time to tread water Waiting for the firing.....Meanwhile Rhule might have another 6-6 year along the way, Hurting his chances at any move up.

Who cares, Rutgers is going to hire a Football coach, based on who is available and willing to step up, as with any P5 job there are potentially great risks and great rewards. Trying to predict who will end up here and under what circumstances at this point is a waste of time. There will be a dozen twists and turns before the process is over and a coach is named.

That all may be true. But let's be honest, would any of the coaches that Rutgers is now apparently focused on, not move on to a better job 95% of the time? Rutgers is in the Big 10 and that alone makes it a better job than Temple. No one is disputing that. But after all the bluster by people on this board that Rutgers was going after Dan Mullen, Chip Kelly, etc., they are going to end up with a coach that was just fired by Miami or is an assistant for Ohio State, etc.

I think Rutgers would be smart to hire Golden but these are the exact same candidates that Temple would be looking at right now. I mean, Temple did hire the offensive coordinator from Florida (Steve Addazzio), right?

Absolutely. Realities of the coaching market. The cream is always going to rise to the top. No matter how good a job is, it just become a matter of who is a bigger fish that can take your guy. Eventually, you wind up at the Michigan, OSU, LSU, Alabama level, where they take whoever the hell they want, including from each other. As to where Rutgers is on that totem pole vs. Temple, I truly do not know. Rutgers has been held back because the school is unwilling to spend an appropriate amount on staff. The rumors are that that is no longer the case, but we haven't seen that manifest itself yet. I think once Rutgers becomes a full member of the Big Ten and can then improve its overall facilities and support, it will be in a much better spot, but that could be 10-15 years from now.

FWIW, I suspect we are still going after Mullen. If they were ready to move forward with Golden or the OSU guys, it wouldve been announced already.

So what your saying is the message board should be shut down and we shouldn't discuss?

A friend of mine got married and left NJ and now works for a high level law firm in St Louis that's loaded with Missou and Illiinois alumni and Rhule had a so-so to not so good (terrible) interview. The culture in the Midwest is significantly different than the Northeast and Rhule did not impress. My contact is at a ground level as an employee at this firm and works for all the big-wigs at this firm, arranging travel, offsite meetings and other sensitive items....she understands the basics of sports and she is not a sports guru, but she overhears tons of specific information that has no value for legal fans but does for college sports fans like myself.

They are all huge St. Louis Cardinals fans like myself, so I asked about Missou after the players almost striking a couple of weeks ago, the retirement of Pinkel and then Rhule interview. He flat out didn't impress, but Missouri is looking for Gary Pinkel 2.0, someone that is very polished, smooth, someone that can kiss babies and take photo opps with alumni throughout the region. Rhule is definitely not that type of coach or fit for what they want, but some of their alumni wanted to interview him anyway. They then agreed he wasn't the right fit for what they wanted as the face of their program, along with the challenges of what the SEC offers.

I view Rhule as a grinder that fits the NFL mode that is 1000% all about football, when you can get away with being gruff, unshaven at times, not as polished or refined, when the NFL franchise stands on it's own. I don't see Rhule fitting in at a lot of schools and RU would be crazy to not interview Rhule, but his stock has dropped significantly around the country, after his Missou interview.....which is good for Temple and their program.

Rhule is boys with Golden. Rhule is probably shying away to give Golden the RU floor. Its called coaching tree alliances.
