finally plays and just lays an egg, because our play calling sucks so there's a good chance he wouldn't be MUCH better, what would everybody pine for and complain about then?

can we at least see him on the field? If he sucks, he sucks but people are complaining because there's no reason you have a QB competition that was supposedly neck to neck and yet one guy never gets the chance to play even when the team is down 21-0.

If Flood was right and chose the right QB, that would have been the perfect opportunity to bring in Rettig and watch him fail.

The biggest problem that everyone is forgetting is that our O-line was terrible verse PSU. Laviano avoided an extra 2-4 sacks. I have no idea was Rettig's escapability is like, but that could be 1 downside with Rettig in.

Exactly. Rettig had a stronger arm. Laviano is a better scrambler. It's not cut and dry. We don't have Caroo our best deep threat is gone. Our best players right now are over the middle.

He does nothing with his escapability, he should have been able to find open receivers on a couple of scrambles, I do not think he ca fit the ball in tight windows, has no confidence he can make something happen with his arm in those situations.

Our o-line was terrible in the second half. He had time in the first half and still made zero plays.

Wrong. They WOULD positively let him throw down field because they KNOW that he can.

??????????
To elaborate.Laviano will play well vs Kansas. This will provide vindication & KF continues the current course. If Rettig succeeds the chosen Laviano cannot continue as the starter.I just don't see KF putting aside his ego, despite all of the outside pressure. If KF makes the move & goes with Rettig then I will be both shocked & impressed.

Rettig would have been better off going to Boston College. His brother was a star QB there a few years ago, this year the Boston college quarterback is struggling. Rettig would've gotten a better chance. Not Sure if Boston College was iinterested in Rettig however.

Yes, I understand and I hate to say this, but I agree this could be the senerio

I was hoping to see at least a few long throws downfield, or at least some throws on first down.... Maybe there were some, but I just don'r recall any/many....

I'm sure they would've been. Incidentally, they just lost their starter, too.

Flood survived mishandling Nova and letting him throw 151 INTS on Homecoming vs Kent State.

What incentive does he have to show everyone he might have chosen the wrong QB?

Obviously he left strict instructions regarding Rettig vs PSU. There was no reason to leave Laviano in there in the 4th qtr.. but we did it anyway. Flood is frightened of playing anyone other than "his guy".

Well - let's look at the play by play!

First half: 15 first down plays. 10 rushes to 5 passes, but it was 10 to 1 until the score was 14-0.

Second half: 20 first down plays, 7 rushes to 13 pass plays (two of which were sacks).

There was very little vertical passing all night long.

1st quarter:
1st possession: three and out. Ran on 1st down.
2nd possession: Four first down plays. Three runs, one pass complete to Flanagan (7 yards).

2nd quarter:
PSU 7, RU 0
3rd possession: Three first down plays, all runs.
4th possession: Three first down plays, all runs.
PSU 14, RU 0
5th possession: Two first down plays, both passes (one complete to Grant for 4 yards, one incomplete to Grant.) Laviano had five passes on this possession: four to Grant, one to Agudosi. No runs on this possession.
PSU 21, RU 0
6th possession: Two first down plays, both passes. Again, we ran five plays here, all passes. The last one was an interception.

FIRST HALF: 15 first down plays. 10 runs to one pass before the score was 14-0. Four passes after that point. Looks like the game plan was to try to run the ball and maintain possession, and we moved away from that when the score dictated.

3rd quarter:
7th possession: Three and out, ran on first down. (James for -1)
8th possession: Five first down plays. Three passes (Flanagan for 15, Hicks for 14, Agudosi for 17) and two runs.
9th possession: Three and out, ran on first down. (Martin for 3)
10th possession: Seven first down plays (!!!!):
- pass complete to Tsimis for 8 yards
- rush by James for 3 yards
END OF QUARTER
- rush by Hicks for 16
- incomplete pass to Flanagan
- rush by Hicks for 2
- pass complete to Flanagan for 7, fumbled, recovered by Tsimis and run for a first down.
- incomplete pass to Flanagan

PSU 21, RU 3

11th possession: Three first downs, all pass attempts (incomplete; 30 yard pass to Patton; sacked)
12th possession: One first down, pass complete to Tsimis for -4 yards. Lost a fumble by Agudosi on 2nd down.
13th possession: Two first downs, both pass attempts: one to Goodwin for 7, one sack.

SECOND HALF TOTALS: 20 first down plays. 7 rushing attempts, 13 called pass plays.

The starting QB gets all the snaps and is programmed for the game in practice. The back up is just not prepared for the game in practice. That is why they don't willie nillie put Rettig in because he only practiced some general plays. Last year you guys wanted Nova to be pulled so Laviano could play, not that he is playing you want him pulled for Rettig.
I think that Rettig will win the starting job next year. He came in late this year where as Laviano played a little bit last year. How many years does Rettig have to play counting this year?

Extra,
Is there a point in the game when you as coach would make a change?

For me, down 21-0 at half against a rival is a pretty good point -- especially when the offense didn't do that great the week before against a relatively poor Washington State defense. If you take away the punt and kickoff return touchdowns, the offense didn't score that much.

Your point is a good one; however, why is Rutgers one of the few schools that is unable to switch or groom more than one QB at a time?

"Why isn't Dare being put in? He's obviously the best quarterback we have, and given how good he is, better to play him now as he will jump to the NFL after his junior year. I can't believe the coaching staff doesn't see this unless it's just Flood being too stubborn and loyal to his upper classmen."

If I was coaching that PSU game I would call up the DC directly and tell him to stop with the fancy smancy check into zone and get the fuching guys lined up for run blitz, PSU isn't going to pass much. I would not be thinking about pulling the starting QB unless he could play defense.

I want to agree with you, however Going Hayden can be construed as an admission
of making a mistake this year, I don't know, I'm getting a little confused with this whole
Flood thing. I have always been on his side from the beginning, When everyone else
was against him, I was right behind him. Now I think I'm sitting on the fence..

I wouldn't use the word fuching unless I was on a private line. The University does not allow the word fuch to be used and it may cause a one game suspension.

If it was another school the criminals would go to jail after the season, not the day before the season starts. Rutgers has to decide, do we want to be big time or do we want to be Ivy league. They hinted big time just by the fact that they wanted in to the Big Ten and expanding the stadium.

In the first 3 game Laviano under threw too many passes. His passes need more zip to them. I'm talking about the plays that he had enough time to throw.

In the WSU game he threw too many up for grabs when he was scambling. Hopefully that issue is fixed.

The DBs he has faced so far are nothing to what he will face against MSU, OSU, Wisconsin etc.

Besides that I have no issue with him.

Wrong premises throughout.! All I want to see is a vertical passing attack that may give us a chance to win games. Flood obviously doesn't think that Laviano can throw deep. Rettig can. But Laviano is going to be the starter once more. This all has a familiarity that I vaguely remember when it comes to yanking QB's that can't get the job done.

I was very impressed with Rettig's wheels. I thought he had none. Granted it was against Norfolk, but he was much more athletic than I thought he would be. His arm was also more lively than I thought it would be. He clearly has the higher upside, only Flood is going with the guy who was here longer because that is what he thinks will win more quickly. Obviously that isn't correct.

Laviano didn't lose us the game on Sat., but like the weekend before, he did nothing to win it.

Meanwhile, we have a 4* tailor made pro set QB sitting on the sidelines getting no experience calling in signals.

Flood should have his head examined. The further we get away from his "decision", the more stupid it gets.

Ok, let's say that Laviano has another bad first half against Kansas -- a team that most people feel we should have little problem with -- would that in itself be cause for someone as stubborn as Flood to make a change?

If Laviano can't get points on the board in the first half against Kansas... he never will.

Agreed. The deep passing game is missing so far. I know the OL is struggling, but Rettig's arm may open up some running lanes. Defenses are essentially play all 11 within 15 yards of the LOS.

Flood will not take Laviano out unless he is injured. Period.
