What Is The Role / Future for Bullock?

raw deal
An instance of unfair or harsh treatment

Well ... Pikiell could have "the talk," and Bullock still wanted to stay - because he likes his teammates, and life as a student at RU. That is very possible. And his right, unless RU takes away his scholarship - which I suspect would not happen, based on a complex mix of reasons to which we as fans likely are not privy.

It is also possible we fans will never get to judge Bullock, since it is possible Bullock never actually sees game time - or only in extreme mop up time (which is no test at all).

If that's the case than he will leave. He knows that he only has 4 years of playing competitive basketball left. If he can't do it here he will absolutely go somewhere and play.

All we need to do is let it play out. I have never seen a guy in the 11-13 spot garner so much attention, Bullock gets hammered on this board ( I call it a raw deal ) more than any other guy ever in one of those spots........lol

Most 11-13 guys on other rosters never see the court once conference play starts.

I just think it's funny saying that us fans are giving him a raw deal because we are speculating he isn't good enough to play here and is a transfer candidate. We have zero affect if he plays and what happens to him. The data from his high school days and practice report tidbits suggest he'd be better off playing at a lower level. Id lobe to be wrong though.

Time will tell DIO. I have just never seen any previous player get this type of "raw deal" by fans on this board before playing....just my opinion.

Chop, what people on this board say has only influenced one thing--it gave Mulcahy cover to fire Gary Waters and try to gyp him out of the money RU owed him when zillions of new posters flooded the board with calls to fire Waters NOW and replace him with FHJ. It has been reported that players read this board, so posters might bear that in mind. But does it affect staff decisions? Highly doubtful.

IMO, no player should be hammered like that...I will always speak up. He may just read the board, you are correct.

The issue with Bullock is how productive he could be playing limited minutes against power conference opponents.

He's listed as a Sophomore on the team website. No mention of redshirt. But it does mention he was a true freshman last year. Also on Rutgers Basketball Facebook page he's listed as a Sophomore

Looks to me like he didn't get an extra year of eligibility

Flirida I know a guy who knows a guy who knows a guy who knows Huggins. Your assessment of him is spot on.

Does anyone really think Bullock would be better than whoever would get his scholarship if he left?

I love the board experts who insist there is a hidden gem at the end of the bench. #freeRettig

I think you are off base here. In basketball these kids play eachother often in practice. they all get seen by coaches every day... more or less in game scrimmage situations. It is harder for a backup player who is better than a starter to go unnoticed in basketball. In football, we have see it happen.. for every one of your cases of "board experts" being wrong there are examples where backups came in and played better that starters.. Ryan Hart for example... even Ray Rice.. when Schiano announce BL was moving to FB to make room for RR.. there was much turmoil.. many people saw this as a good move and others not. Both groups could be called "board experts".

There sometimes are hidden gems on the bench and many times coaches are given opportunities to play those guys to see what they have and it is not wrong for fans to want to see those opportunities taken.

We don’t have to always be politically correct in our opinions. At least I thought this was America? Let’s call it what it is. When was the last time Rutgers was ever in a position to worry about the 12th and 13th scholarship on the roster? We never had that luxury in recent memory. The fact that we now are courting multiple 4 star players and there are a few players still visiting when we don’t have an immediate opening is brand new stuff for us. So that’s the only reason Bullock has been singled out. I don’t know anything about him but what I do know is that the Big 10 requires speed and athleticism that’s at a different level. Physically, it looks like guards would run circles around him but maybe I’m wrong? I think it’s simply the fact that there are potential recruits who could want to come and better our program and play. So of course we are discussing what we see or don’t see from Bullock. He’s been here for a year and if he decides to leave after this year for a chance to play; he’s had two full years of his education paid. I’m fine with seeing how he does if he gets on the court and our coaches will help him evaluate what he does from there. But again, it’s a numbers game and that’s why we are having this discussion. It takes a full roster to win in the Big 10 and that’s the goal, right?

He's here for the season--let's see how it plays out and hope he can find a role. Meanwhile, Chop is right. We know from experience that players read this board--we even had a guy that graduated, and was treated very badly by FHJ after Fred took over as HC, participate on this board off and on for a while. So if you have the urge to criticize an individual player during the year, just remember that some players do read the board. We are not going to have an NCAA season and will get hosed in some games. Yeah, you could go after X for not being strong enough or Y for not being athletic enough for the B1G, but as long as the effort is there, remember, we are still building. We get some more reinforcements in 2018/19, and probably more to come. Saw enough grumbling and murmuring when reality set in last season after our soft OOC schedule, and don't want to see the mood swings from euphoric to carrying torches and pitchforks again.

Nailed it

This is new for us.
We aren't like UNC or Duke where there are 4 stars up and down the bench.

If we could add a 4 star (rare for us), or keep the 13th man on the bench, which is better for the program?

It's a no brainer.

Just need to figure out the best way to make it happen and not burn bridges (and help the kid out as much as possible, whoever that kid is.)

Sensitive issue to discuss but for a program like Rutgers scholarships must be used wisely to improve league rankings and chances for winning seasons.

They shouldn't, but they do. Everyone reads the board.

Two of my friends both played in the Big East, made lots of money in Europe and now coach at their respective schools. They would never waste their time reading the crap us fans post when they were playing. My friends mom would read stuff about her son. She would laugh and say his high school coach (who was top 3 in NJ for years) would say much worse about him. Players are told by their coaches to stay off these boards. Us fans come here to talk about the team and speculate about the future of the program and the players.
