First class University in academics.First class University in research. Why not go the extra mile and do everything possible to make "Rutgers The State University of New Jersey", first class in athletics, and be a sought after destination for students all across this great nation? The money that would be brought into Rutgers if it was a destination for out of state students like the Ohio States and Michigan's, and Stanford's of the world, would blow away the cost to get our athletics to the B!G level across the board!!!!!

I agree. Its sad that our own Governor won't even support us. He is too busy Kissing Jerry Jone's butt in his weird bromance with him.

As far as the rest of the state, there are some many diverse interests, nobody seems to want to rally around the state university here like in other states.

We seem to have a much better reputation outside NJ than in our own state.

It is happening much slower than we want, but it is like night and day compared to ten years ago. Applications and campus visits are going through the roof. You can't go anywhere without seeing the "R" magnets on cars and people ,especially kids, wearing Rutgers gear. I think we are just seeing the very beginning effects of the medical school and Big Ten Network. The new Honors College and thousands of new dorms that have opened or will be opening soon will also help.

Re: All true, Heaven

Just need that $100 mill donation to make it all go faster. Re-make College Ave. Surely, someone is out there.

Re: All true, Heaven

Rutgers actually is -- too little too late, perhaps, but still -- moving in the right direction in so many ways. Finally seeing some building on College Avenue is huge, and the master plan (although it will take decades) will, if it happens, make Rutgers LOOK like a Big Ten university.

Honors College, new residence facilities, as Heaven notes these are things that matter.

Now, when it comes to sports, we're really talking about the RAC and men's basketball. Sure, I want to see ALL of our programs do well, but it's not like we're desperate to invest money in football, our soccer/lacrosse facility is fine, I don't think I've heard much crying about the track or baseball and softball, wrestling is getting big crowds, etc. So it basically comes down to the RAC and men's basketball.

Nobody can be happy with how long we have gone without a significant upgrade there, but it will happen if only because it has to. And as long as we've waited this long, I hope they wait until they have the money to do it -- whatever "it" is -- right.

Pick one:

A) When hell freezes over.
B) When pigs fly.
C) When the RU men's basketball team makes the NCAAs.
D) all of the above.

When the voters in New Jersey care enough about Rutgers to hold their elected officials responsible to support the institution, at that point in time Rutgers will nake the big step forward.

NJ will realize that Rutgers should be the crown jewel when Rutgers decides it wants to be the crown jewel.

Too many at Rutgers still want to be Ivy League and not Big Ten.

Ivy League schools pull the Condi Rice and recent Senate resolution crap ... Big Ten schools do not.
