No one on the planet (except mabe Randi Larson?) has watched more Rutgers basketball in person in the past 25 years. Would love to readBrian's thoughts on the state of the program, especially since he can be more forthright than in say, the Gary Waters era.

Haven't seen BK post in a long time.

He and his wife are obviously amazing fans, but I'm not sure someone who survived going home and away to every game for years when we barely won anything is going to have the most objective opinion on the current state of things.

Ok...I'll bite

First, it was good to run into you outside the RAC @LeapinLou ...it's been a minute!

I don't think my opinion about how this season has turned out differs much from most others. I'm a bit disappointed but not at all surprised that we haven't executed during this experiment of a season. There could be 1000 reasons why, and I won't bore anyone with my 2 cents on that
..but to Rutgers credit, none are salacious or controversial in nature.

Pike is an outstanding human being and a great basketball coach. He will get us back on track when the smoke clears...I'm quite confident of that. Rutgers basketball will have 2 lottery picks in the NBA, and the programs profile has increased 1000 fold, even with the mediocre results so far.

Nobody can say that is a bad thing, right?

Well we’ve been ”off track” for 24 1/2 months so there’s a lot of spin there, but I appreciate you taking the time to answer.

Are we still mad at Pikes that Cam and Paul transferred so late that he couldn't find good enough replacements? The 2023 offseason is one that I think will be written in Rutgers lore.... and I don't think it can all be blamed on Pikes. If you just want to go on W and Ls I think that's not fair. This season is all on Pikes... but I think he's a very good coach that can fix things.

Well said. Voice of reason.

And yet BK is actually tied into real money folks unlike 99.99% of this board and in the inner circle. Ru66 and others have mentioned that as well. These folks aren’t done with Pike and have a similar view to BK. I have heard the same from the few I know. Disappointment and frustration with the season hell yes but packing it in Pike.. nope.

Well, I've watched RU hoops since my freshman year 1968-69.
Thoughts on this year? Well in retrospect almost impossible to win with freshmen period.
We should have realized that.
Hey the 2 greatest frosh in RU history before these 2 guys were Sellers and Dabney. Both scored 19 and 12 per game in their initial seasons. And they were surrounded with John Somogyi who had 20 pg and the 6'9 Armstead at center who was at 13 pg. You know what their record was? 15-11.

Is there disappointment and frustration with no offensive sets and little movement (for years), goofing off in warmups and having tv announcers point it out and not being able to even inbound a basketball anymore. I respect and am grateful for Bk and other super fans like him. I appreciate their optimism, gosh knows I could use more than I have. I just feel humbly, not in an argumentative fashion, that the problems are deeper than Cam and Paul transferring late or one year where we blew it with two five stars.

IMO fair and reasoned response and I can definitely see this side of the story as well.

To some degree it doesn't really matter what those people think now (unless, I guess, they were so incredibly fed up they were going to fund a gigantic buyout right now which seems very unrealistic).

Because of the contract situation Pike will get another couple years at least and then it should be much clearer what we have.

Way different game then and not realistic comparison at all. I understand trying to find answers to explain Pikes melt down but it’s over. We can grasp at straws for a really nice man or look at a WELL compensated coach who is out of his depths.

So we just sit back and pray and hope?
Both are not a strategy for anything. Let’s not complain about RU athletics and its state moving forward because we are unwilling to operate as a competent program.

Thank you so much for your dedication and fandom for our beloved University. Rutgers does not have 2 NBA lottery picks. 2 NBA lottery picks came to Rutgers and had there draft status negatively impacted and called into question.

The articles and National media have already begun and expect it to get much worse.

I respect and value your opinion but your optimism may be clouding your judgement.

If you looked at the same season but the young men’s Jersey’s said Michigan or Syracuse on the front and not RU would your unbiased basketball eye say the same thing? Possibly yes but maybe not. No other University would allow this to happen with out consequences.

I politely think you might feel differently. Nice guy (hear that a lot and agree). who is Highly compensated should be held accountable. Pike well not hold his players accountable let’s not compound that mistake by doing the same with our head coach.

Thank you and look forward to a time of meeting you and talking RU hoops over the years.

Hopefully, we donate. Because if we rely on luck and hope, it likely won’t end well for us.

This timing coincided with NIL going off the rails, which exposed our fan base's inability and/or lack of desire to play the game with the big boys.
We have more money on the floor this year than almost every team we have played. I believe Alabama had more but it’s close. Yes you have to count Ace and Dylan’s NIL.

Outside entities provided most of the money that is on the floor. We can’t count on that going forward. The money that the fanbase provided, brought in the inconsistent transfers.

I agree and every other school is leveraging outside entities where possible. My larger point is ppl complaining about NIL and saying we did not have the money on the floor to compete. When the reality is Pike has had the advantage in every game he coached this year as it relates to $ on the floor.

Every other school is counting on outside entities moving forward and Pike has burned bridges with 2 of them with the lack of success an inability to market the players during tournament season.

Dylan wasn’t available in every game due to sickness and injury. So while Pike might have had the most dollars on the floor, he certainly didn’t have the most talented team on the floor, though he had the two most talented players. But it’s the team which wins games. Basketball is a team sport.

No doubt and agree but now shifting the excuse from NIL and money to now injuries which is a separate conversation.

Even without Dylan the monies paid to Ace, Lathan, Martini, and the rest of the transfers still has Pike in the top ten $ on the floor. Ace was always the most talented player on the floor.

Money is not the problem this year.
Talent evaluation and every aspect of coaching are the problems

Maybe waiting for Trump to bail him out of jail if proud has to do with proud boys?

Someone else said he might have died
Wow I hope that isn’t true. I think he was pretty young. It also seemed pretty abovious from his posts that he was battling some addictions.
