For a stats numbers guy must be hard but I applaud you. You do realize hope is why RU has been bad for so long? My heart hopes as well my head knows differently.Who is “we”? As a fan, yes, I will sit back and hope.

Money is the primary issue when the fanbase couldn’t pony up for an adequate supporting cast.No doubt and agree but now shifting the excuse from NIL and money to now injuries which is a separate conversation.
Even without Dylan the monies paid to Ace, Lathan, Martini, and the rest of the transfers still has Pike in the top ten $ on the floor. Ace was always the most talented player on the floor.
Money is not the problem this year.
Talent evaluation and every aspect of coaching are the problems
I probably shouldn't have posted because my memory stinks and I could have it wrongWow I hope that isn’t true. I think he was pretty young. It also seemed pretty abovious from his posts that he was battling some addictions.
So much wrong with this. These guys’ draft stock is not in question from any source with integrity. There will always be baiting articles, but Jonathan Givony from ESPN who is by far the leading draft analyst for the last 15+ years has them 2 and 3 as of 3 days ago (even says Bailey may push Harper for #2 with strong play down the stretch). This season didn’t work out, but I bet Pike will be in the Green Room on draft day. That video footage goes a long way, as does the “one call away” to Dylan and Ace as they ascend to stardom in the nba.Thank you so much for your dedication and fandom for our beloved University. Rutgers does not have 2 NBA lottery picks. 2 NBA lottery picks came to Rutgers and had there draft status negatively impacted and called into question.
The articles and National media have already begun and expect it to get much worse.
I respect and value your opinion but your optimism may be clouding your judgement.
If you looked at the same season but the young men’s Jersey’s said Michigan or Syracuse on the front and not RU would your unbiased basketball eye say the same thing? Possibly yes but maybe not. No other University would allow this to happen with out consequences.
I politely think you might feel differently. Nice guy (hear that a lot and agree). who is Highly compensated should be held accountable. Pike well not hold his players accountable let’s not compound that mistake by doing the same with our head coach.
Thank you and look forward to a time of meeting you and talking RU hoops over the years.
This timing coincided with NIL going off the rails, which exposed our fan base's inability and/or lack of desire to play the game with the big boys.
Taking your word for the assertion that we had the financial advantage (in total dollars) in almost every game we played, this doesn't factor in how the money is distributed. The vast majority of our money, whatever the source of that money and whether we will have it moving forward, was allocated to two players. Hypothetically, let's say they each got $1mm and the other ten players split the remaining $500k and therefore averaged $50k each. These (hypothetical) numbers would give us a total NIL of $2.5mm. For argument's sake, let's assign $2mm NIL to each of the other teams we play. We are at a dollar advantage.I agree and every other school is leveraging outside entities where possible. My larger point is ppl complaining about NIL and saying we did not have the money on the floor to compete. When the reality is Pike has had the advantage in every game he coached this year as it relates to $ on the floor.
Every other school is counting on outside entities moving forward and Pike has burned bridges with 2 of them with the lack of success an inability to market the players during tournament season.
If Pike ends up with a nice budget to keep Lathan, Grant and Dortch and to get portal players to complement them at a higher level than MAAC-level guys, it will change the complexion of the team. How the talent is distributed is as important as the total dollars on the floor.
What does NIL money have to do with coherent inbounds plays?
Fans hoping is why RU has been bad for so long? You're going to have to explain the mechanism there. For a stats numbers guy must be hard but I applaud you. You do realize hope is why RU has been bad for so long? My heart hopes as well my head knows differently.
Do you have eyes?so, I can surmize that you have no idea ?
Thanks
Not because of money because of talent selectionMoney is the primary issue when the fanbase couldn’t pony up for an adequate supporting cast.
So the team was less talented than our opponents in most games.
the gock totally made that upthats where I got it from...so my source is pretty suspect at this point.
The Rutgers NIL collective received $1,000,000 from the Players Era Festival organizers.Taking your word for the assertion that we had the financial advantage (in total dollars) in almost every game we played, this doesn't factor in how the money is distributed. We are at a dollar advantage.
But are we at a talent advantage? Rarely, and here's why. Let's say a team could get a modern-day Alan Iverson for $2mm (or Zach Edey, who inside folks tell me actually got $2mm), and there was no money left for other quality players. So there's one superstar and no talent around him. Where would that team finish? At the bottom.
Now let's say a team spent their $2mm on five very good players each getting $400k, how do you think they would do against a team with only one or two elite players and little talent elsewhere? The five very good players would dominate them.
Now back to Pike. He likely wasn't given a pile of money to go out and find players and he decided to spend it all on two players--the dynamic was in the opposite direction. Two players had an interest in us and we had to find the money to keep them from going elsewhere, and the money was evidently gotten. If this scenario is what happened, then our talent was concentrated in two players (young, mind you, not experienced) with the remaining cast as works in progress (Lathan, Grant, Dortch, all freshmen), or hopeful and relatively inexpensive contributors such as Derkack, Martini and Acuff.
If Pike ends up with a nice budget to keep Lathan, Grant and Dortch and to get portal players to complement them at a higher level than MAAC-level guys, it will change the complexion of the team. How the talent is distributed is as important as the total dollars on the floor.
Whales and corporate entities are key… a large group of smaller donors is also keyNIL is not being supported by the “regular” fans . The programs that are winning with NIL are essentially riding their 1-3 whales.
Annoying posters on this board keep screaming it’s because our fan base is cheap.
1. We don’t have the history or size of fan base so that’s not going to magically get “willed” into existence
2. People giving 100, 300, or even 1-3k per year are going to make such a little dent. Basically wasting time and resources and breathe even taking about check writers under $25k per year.
Talent selection was poor due to the pool of players we were selecting from, due to lack of money. Money is the #1 reason this team stinks, as much as people want to deny it is. It’s the 800 lb gorilla in the room. Not because of money because of talent selection
Wait damn proud died ? And this is all woven between other posts about NIL?This is the thread that includes several posts about Proud. "thegock" says he died of Covid, bit there is no definitive proof.

bac is debunking tbe theoryWait damn proud died ? And this is all woven between other posts about NIL?
I hope you were watching the UConn game this afternoon who was up 7 with like 46 seconds to go & could not inbound numerous times & lost on a failed inbound play to Seton HallWhat does NIL money have to do with coherent inbounds plays?
Sure no problem! Everyone here knows Pike is in over his head and shoulders be gone but they HOPE but leaving him as the coach he will turn it around while knowing the next 5 years will be bad. Hope and PrayFans hoping is why RU has been bad for so long? You're going to have to explain the mechanism there.
You seem to be confused.Sure no problem! Everyone here knows Pike is in over his head and shoulders be gone but they HOPE but leaving him as the coach he will turn it around while knowing the next 5 years will be bad. Hope and Pray
A competent program would remove him put together a good team to identify the next head coach and move forward to align with the new college basketball landscape. Strategy, Planning, and Execution!
I wouldn’t equate the failure in the last 50 seconds of a single game to our history of inbounding issues under PikeI hope you were watching the UConn game this afternoon who was up 7 with like 46 seconds to go & could not inbound numerous times & lost on a failed inbound play to Seton Hall
50 seconds & then the whole overtime same problemI wouldn’t equate the failure in the last 50 seconds of a single game to our history of inbounding issues under Pike
I politely disagree. There is a direct correlation between fan support and a coaches tenure. You seem to be confused.
Neither I nor any of the fans on this board that would be doing the hoping work for the program or control its decisions.
Ok well I am going to continue to watch the games on TV instead of boycotting in some sisyphean quest to get Pike fired.I politely disagree. There is a direct correlation between fan support and a coaches tenure.
Showing up and hoping or creating excuses for a failing coach while praying things change feeds directly into the program staying status quo.
Fair enough FlouxOk well I am going to continue to watch the games on TV instead of boycotting in some sisyphean quest to get Pike fired.
I hate this view point and will always call it out. The small checks are just as important as the large ones. The large whales aren't coming in if they feel people aren't all in. I certainly wouldn't. Also, some small check writers turn into larger ones. The important thing is to get people to give something, its not that hard.NIL is not being supported by the “regular” fans . The programs that are winning with NIL are essentially riding their 1-3 whales.

WOW ..wtf man.Maybe waiting for Trump to bail him out of jail if proud has to do with proud boys?
Someone else said he might have died
I didn’t see UConn and it happens but we on three occasions made no effort to move or screen under our basket where the objective should be not only to inbound but to score. That’s what frustrated me.I hope you were watching the UConn game this afternoon who was up 7 with like 46 seconds to go & could not inbound numerous times & lost on a failed inbound play to Seton Hall
That is true but what about those many fans that have contributed and the team still doesn't perform up to expectations? Without accountability mediocrity continues and some fans won't continue as ticket holders or financial supporters.I hate this view point and will always call it out. You can't complain we stink if you don't give, period end of story. Sorry if that upsets people but it's fact.
In some way in my opinion it’s easier given all the games these kids play against high level competition so they are more ready in that way then back in the 70’s. However and I think this is more important (again just my opinion) but Dylan and ace are playing against 22, 23 year old very good college basketball players that have been through the wars and in many cases have been with their program for a while. Those guys will have the advantage in closing out games and that’s the way it’s played out. I don’t think we can ignore the illnesses and injuries either if we want to look at things objectively. Doesn’t excuse the record it is what it is but it’s not really surprising at all given everything.Well, I've watched RU hoops since my freshman year 1968-69.
Thoughts on this year? Well in retrospect almost impossible to win with freshmen period.
We should have realized that.
Hey the 2 greatest frosh in RU history before these 2 guys were Sellers and Dabney. Both scored 19 and 12 per game in their initial seasons. And they were surrounded with John Somogyi who had 20 pg and the 6'9 Armstead at center who was at 13 pg. You know what their record was? 15-11.
I’m not sure what your continued reference to the UCONN-Seton Hall game means?50 seconds & then the whole overtime same problem
Mostly agree. The questions I would have is are you allowed to complain we stink if you give ? Is there a minimum to get in on the complaining game . It kinda gets murky here. because say I donate $50 and Skoolie donates 5k, can I complain as much as Skoolie?I hate this view point and will always call it out. The small checks are just as important as the large ones. The large whales aren't coming in if they feel people aren't all in. I certainly wouldn't. Then they have a right to complain. Buying tickets isn't contributing though. Donating is.That is true but what about those many fans that have contributed and the team still doesn't perform up to expectations? Without accountability mediocrity continues and some fans won't continue as ticket holders or financial supporters.
The people who give more tend to complain less from what I have noticed because they understand how the college sports business typically works.Mostly agree. The questions I would have is are you allowed to complain we stink if you give ? Is there a minimum to get in on the complaining game . It kinda gets murky here. because say I donate $50 and Skoolie donates 5k, can I complain as much as Skoolie?
He has an addiction to not working and drinking too much alcohol. Hope he didn’t die as he was another who lived on this board and didn’t actually live his life.
