Which team is more frustrating to root for - The Mets - The Jets or Rutgers?

Mets and RU fan...damn good question...they both test your mettle

I'll say Mets...always view pro sports as a mercenary deal where winning is
all there is...college sports more fun for me

Let's throw the Giants and Rangers into the mix. No matter which way we turn for local excitement, it's tough to find. OTOH, if Rutgers football has a good season next year we can claim market share.

Well, I'd imagine the JETS. RU was 1-AA until 1980 and only joined a D1-A conference 25 years ago and even so no one even attempted to take RU football seriously until we started investing in the facilities/coaching in the early 2000's. The Jets have been disappointing their fans for nearly half a century. And this Mets talk is silly. I'm only in my mid 30's and have already seen the Mets win 3 pennants and 1 World Series. The Mets biggest crime other than being painfully cheap and often mismanaged is that they share the city with the greatest professional sports franchise in the universe. I'm sure fans of teams like the Cubs, Indians, White Sox, Padres and Astros would trade their past 50 years with the Mets. Even the Dodgers haven't won the pennant since '88 yet the "hapless" Mets have won 2 more since their '86 World Championship. I feel bad for Jets fans again since big mouth is no longer coaching them. I'm a NYG fan/season ticket holder my entire life and I was rooting hard for the Jets today.

The NFL has a salary cap and a draft. Which means all teams are about the same level, or have the opportunity to be at a high level with proper management.

Being a Jets fan should be harder since they continue to choke.

Rutgers' issue is not enough money being donated or allocated for athletics.

As a veteran of all 3, easily its RU--probably because emotionally there are much higher stakes in my brain.

I'm mildly upset about today. I actually expected it. This doesn't even compare to the frustration I have felt over the last 10 years with RU.

Well, in the past 10 years, I have given up on the NY Mets & NY Jets

I hope Ash is the answer....if not then maybe RU is next......

Rutgers is the worst out of the three. Others are not that bad. Mets were in the World Series and Jets were in it till two minutes into the 4th qtr in the last game of the season of making the playoffs.

We are the worst football team in the BIG. What was the point in joining the BIG if we are going to suck so bad?

When it comes to any pro franchise, there are hundreds of thousands or millions of people that you can comiserate with. Even with a large state school like Rutgers, there simply aren't that many die-hard fans that are emotionally invested. So it's always going to be difficult to be the fan of a college program that has never really been dominant.

For me it's the Jets. Then the Knicks and finally Rutgers. I find the Mets to be a little bit more successful.

I've learned to love the "ride" when a team is on a great run like the Mets did last season. I'll never understand fans who think seasons are only good when the team wins it all. For me, there are good seasons (like winning a division or being in the Finals) and great seasons (when you win it all).

If you can't enjoy the good seasons, how do you possibly continue being a fan each year? Winning championships is supposed to be difficult - that's what makes them so memorable.

Mets and Jets have nothing on the Indians (last World Series win--1948) and the Browns (last NFL title-1964) Lions--1957...never even sniffing a Super Bowl.
For most of its existence, Rutgers didn't even try and compete on a national level. Since then, though, the Browns and Lions are better comparisons than the Jets. Those two organizations have been seriously mismanaged.

As a lifetime diehard Rutgers, Mets, and Jets fan I can tell you it is all equally painful. I've often said why in God's name couldn't I be a Yankees or Giants fan since they have won many more times and I've even given my wife grieve for being from Georgia and not Alabama.

Just a really tough question - any one of these teams can bring you to tears and rip your heart our over and over and over in so many different ways.

The Cleveland Browns have won two Super Bowls. Unfortunately, when they won them they were (and still are) disguised as the Baltimore Ravens.

The Mets...1986
The Jets ...1969
Rutgers......never

The Eagles... or any Philly team for that matter... Then add to it being a Rutgers fan. Feel better?

I've lived in Boston for over 35 years and remain a Rutgers, Yanks , Rangers, and Jets fan. I'm coping but it's brutal.....

Jets by far. Year after winning Superbowl, Jets had ball down by goal line couldn't punch it against Kansas City in 1969 AFL Championship game. Lost 13 -6 and KC wins Superbowl IV in cakewalk.

Richard Todd's interception to AJ Duhe in AFC Championship mudd bowl game against Miami.

Gastinuea ruffing the passer on 4th down against the Browns on an incomplete pass leads to Brown drive and winning playoff game.

The mistakes in the AFC championship game loss to Denver.

I can go on with many others.

Yesterday's Buffalo Game was just more for the course of disappointing finishes.

Well what do ya know? Dem Mets went and made it to the World Series all by accident.

The Mets went for it last year, after catching the luckiest situation you can ever dream of with the young stud pitching. Then, after needing a 12 home run second baseman to go all babe ruth in order to make it to the world series, ultimately getting outclassed by a better all around KC lineup, the Mets throw in the towel, letting go all of the everyday talent that got them there.

Always the frugal losers. They'll be competitive until each of their pitchers is able to get paid, then they'll fold what could become the greatest rotation ever assembled. Because they are cheap bastards.
