Why are we building a baseball stadium on another college's campus?

Can someone who understands the ins and outs of this help me make sense of this. Are we really going to play our baseball games on the campus of the local community college? Nothing against Middlesex but how does that make sense?

Rutgers didn’t build it Middlesex County did. It will be a temporary thing until RU upgrades theirs. Also RU could be playing some of their games on their field.

Rutgers ain't got no money, but sorely needed an update to their baseball facility. This was the cheapest route to do so. It would seem to me to make more sense to have built it at RU and have MCC travel there to play but I don't think that's what the $$ people were offering.

Doesn't sound like it will be anything temporary. As a MCC and Rutgers Alum, as well as Middlesex County taxpayer, this is a poor use of funds that doesn't make much logical sense and can most easily be explained as some sort of backroom political deal.

My guess is that MCC also needed some sort of field turf baseball Stadium, as you really cannot reliably play games in the northeast without it. Middlesex was willing to chip in a big chunk of it to get it built. And they are either hoping to gain some revenue via RU games, or RU will be covering a chunk of the maintenance on the facility.

Gee.. I wonder how much it will cost for Rutgers to rent that stadium from Middlesex County. I wonder who will see a piece of that in the form of political donations, etc etc. An off-campus stadium... that will be sure students can attend games.

It’s not a horrible idea. Baseball is a borderline sport for RU to support. Why put millions into a new stadium when this could be a sport that gets eliminated. May as well share the stadium for now and see how the landscape goes.

Yes, it'll be a big deal for the nation to see that a B1G Baseball team plays it's games on the campus of the local County College...
The nation lol.
College Baseball is not a big deal I am pretty sure much of the nation doesn’t care.
I doubt many Rutgers fans and graduates even care.

Coach Owens stated they will play their Weekend B1G games there once opened. I guess other games, if any, will be selected accordingly...

I do think in the end it will be benefit to have this level of a facility, sure it would be better to be on campus, but its still nearby which having an updated facility will attract new fans having more ability to invite local little league teams to the games, recruiting better using what would be new TV access for nationwide reach and have a facility close to the same playing level as other teams in the BIG. I dont think off campus will have much impact, unless things have changed in 20 years, baseball never really attracted a large amount of student fans to the games.
