Why is Simulating Shooting a Gun a Penalty in FB not Basketball?

Watching RU Bama game, I noticed many of their players doing it after draining threes….

Just watched the end of the OSU MICH fb game and saw the penalty applied.

I know many college basketball players do it….made me wonder why the different standards.

no clue but I’d imagine you it’s because you do “shoot” in basketball. Not so much in football.
