he had almost been picked off on the previous play and then goes ahead and does it a second time.

I only wish the DB who picked it off would have done the McSorley mock home run swing after being tackled.

That said, I don't fault the aggressive play call there, but McSorley can't throw into double coverage.

Because Franklin is not a good game day coach. Franklin pounds his chest when he's beating inferior opponents, but when a good opponent gets up and punches back he doesn't know what to do.
I can't stand Franklin--fvcking can't stand him--but they came back against Wisky in the B1G championship game, and IIRC they were down at the half in their final four games and came back to win. Franklin's a dick, but we are up against it now that UM rebounded post-Hoke, tOSU is always great, and PSU is back.

Think McSorley should have done it himself .. as a switch hitter.

Because they got cocky. They were acting like DB's on the sideline during their run in the 2nd and 3rd quarters, to the point where it took Giseki about 2-minutes to get to the middle of the PSU sideline and get an earful from Franklin, following his (GREAT) TD catch. Then, Franklin himself, joined in the douche-baggery the next 2 TD's (IIRC on the "order" of things...). They didn't think there was any chance they weren't going down the field and winning that game. Anyway, they got cocky, thought they could get away with a deep sideline route, and that's what happens. Oh well.

I didn't think it was a bad call to pass in that situation but Mc needs to throw it away when the safety is there. Like stated above, you play to win. Two bad play calls in my mind were 1) the possession before on third down with two minutes left, I would have done a qb sneak as everyone was keying on Barkley and Mc is a pretty good runner, 2) running on first down on their last possession when they should have been throwing passes in the 10 - 15 yard range as the clocks stops with a first down and they had two timeouts.

Franklin gift that keeps on giving. Ridiculous strategy. Take my chances with Barkley in OT.
Did you see Penn State d? You have to try to win the game there. No one had an advantage in OT. You got 1:20 from the 35. You go for the win. The play before the interception if the ball has any zip and not the under thrown PSU in field goal range.

you play to win
I agree with bac. Plus, all they needed was field goal position. To go to OT, you put the odds back in favor of SC playing basically at home and with the crowd. Gotta go for it, but I might have gone for some first down passes.

I thought USC should have gone for two with Jackson hurt and the other kid kicked out of the game.

Playing to win means dumping it off on 3rd down getting the first down or punting -- not throwing a terrible pass to a covered receiver. In all of the great drives that Tom Brady makes I almost never see him make that throw and they win all the time. I'm not comparing the kid to Beady but the idea that the throw on 3rd was playing win simply isn't accurate. It was dumb.

No problem going for the win but I would have preferred "safer" play calls knowing the QB's mentality

DING DING DING!

Outside of Barcley their success has been jump balls.

I agree - does anyone else watch Penn State and immediately think "Shitty Madden Player" offense. Just throw continuous bombs and hope you get lucky because it seemed like they go lucky quite a bit. I don't think that is sustainable - next year, things can easily go negative on many of those plays.

That being said, Saquon is awesome.

Well, I may not like Franklin, but if you think he and his team didn't fight back when PSU was down 13-0 early then you are a blind man.

plenty of time to try for first downs and the Field goal. Just poor choice to try that exact play again and throw into that coverage..probably thought if they did Int. it they would never return it so far. This and those pass interference calls..PSU really folded badly at the end game to ruin what was an amazing effort. (by both teams).

No problem with being aggressive. They put up a shitload of points. The issue was not using Barkley more and throwing up absolute prayers.

Poor coaching.
