Why Players leave for the NFL

And if he doesn't get drafted or signed? No degree. He's far from a lock. Short-term outlook outweighing long-term future.

Terrible decision to move on. He would have had a better chance to help his family if he stayed 1 more year and received his degree. Mom is not in the streets, just not in a great situation. If he doesn't make it, he and his mother have no home and no degree. If he was a sure first to 3rd round guy I would say go for it, but he night not even get drafted. Bet Auburn is happy to free up a scholarship since it sounds like he wasn't even playing much at the end of the season.

Easy for us to criticize a kid like this, but we can't really relate to his life, can we? Family is obviously struggling, kid has dyslexia and ADHD so who knows what his academic situation was going to be anyway. People do what they gotta do.

There is no way for any outsider to know how far away he is from actually obtaining a degree -
let's assume he is diligent & motivated -
even at that , playing on an SEC Football team & being dyslexic and having ADHD would likely make the path toward graduation a more challenging one -
hey, it would be enormously challenging even for a non-football playing student like this to progress to the finish line without some hiccups along the way.

I think of Pip from our Women's team that left early now wished she stayed to receive her degree and played her senior year. It a personal choice but each individual has to set their own course.

Whenever I see this question arise I always think of Jawan Jamison - I really wish he had stayed another year.

His two cousins and his uncle all played in the NFL and his mother has to live with his sister (her daughter) to make ends meet?

Unless you are a top draft pick, it is a very risky proposition. Getting a degree is often more valuable.

Consider that many here actually earned a real degree with job opportunities. Way too many athletes are there to showcase their skills for the potential payday with the pros. We all know that most schools make their "academic" situation as easy as possible so they can stay eligible.
Can anyone here actually imagine failing a dance course???
I give every athlete tons of credit for staying the course and earning a degree. Virtually every one of them will need it to make it though life. Even the ones who are lucky enough to make it to the pros, have difficulty not ending up broke way too soon.
