Will the RAC be the old RAC on Friday night?

Nah not really...I’ve known Christian since we were in college, however, it wouldn’t surprise me. She has an absolute stranglehold on everything in and around that program.
Really? But why? Not doubting you, just questioning why a dance coach would have this power. I know, I know, George, sigh...

maybe but this game isnt sold out and I dont think its close to being and we need to get a real full rocking student section..fdu atmosphere was okay but student really did a poor job tonight...so will they come for a Friday game vs SJU knowing they will be partying in the street for a football game on Saturday. Not so sure.

at any rate, I dont think any crowd in the last 5 years approaches what we had in the 90s and then during Waters

I think fans will come out of the woodwork on Friday.

Does any other school have their cheer and dance teams 5 rows deep extending the entire baseline?

Yes, Nebraska has the seating about 20’ from baseline and is occupied by cheerleaders and dance team as well as all the media. Just set courtside today and there was a lot of people in them areas.

Probably looking at 6500 tops with a good student turnout hopefully. The crowd that is there should be in to it - desperate for something to feel good about RU after this football season.

Crowd will be like Michigan State last year, and that was a solid crowd.

Is the weather supposed to be bad (rain) for Friday? Regardless, I hope student section is rocking even with Penn State football game next day and crowd is at least 6,500 or so - if not better, One thing I can tell you is that this will be a physical game as last year's "charity exhibition" between the squads was very rough and I expect those memories to regurgitate themselves on Friday 11/16.

St;Johns has a long history of being a big time college basketball program but have faced recent years with disappointing results. The current squad has outstanding players that will match Rutgers in shooting and intensity. In other words the RAC should be a sellout for this game. The predictions for only 6500 would be deeply disappointing because it would be another indicator of lack of interest in NJ college athletics. The Star Ledger doesn't even list the weekly game schedule for Rutgers and Seton Hall.A little advertising would do wonders in attracting basketball fans for this regional rivalry.

To be 100% honest I wouldn’t be surprised if Zoffinger, the daughter, had the bleachers moved back so that her dance and cheer teams had more room.

I think they eliminated those seats around 2012 if I remember correctly. The students rushed the court in 2011 vs. Nova during my senior year so I assumed it was done for safety reasons. I think they also put up the fencing at that time as well.

Either way it did take away from the atmosphere behind the basket by elimating hundreds or seats and pushing them back. There’s no reason to have all that space back there.

I was at the A-10 championship game and have been to several games in the years that have followed that were every bit as loud. The first that comes to mind was Douby's frosh year v. #1 Uconn. Sold out and loud. Very loud. Very, very loud. Lost by 1.

You put 8000 in that building and we are dangerous.

Putting the cushy seats on the lower level behind the benches was the beginning of the end.

Look at the ESPN tv feed of the A10 champ game against Penn State

That was the RAC

The changing of 118 was the final nail in the coffin of the RAC being the RAC...
You’re wrong.

And pick any one of those games when that Waters team beat four straight ranked teams at home. Cuse was probably the loudest. To this day, I really feel the crowd helped bring that one home.

I’ve been at all the big games since the 80’s and the 1982 win vs. 27-3 West Virginia on CBS and early 90s win vs. Missouri were the only games that rivaled the ‘89 A10 championship in my opinion. You literally could not talk the person next to you during those games and everyone stood on their seats for much of the games. UNLV came close.

I was not at the Penn St game. The loudest game ever I was at was WVU 1982 - they were like #6. This was a pre fire code crowd of 9,000 strong. Thats coming up on 37 years ago. Holy cow

As I recall, Calhoun was very complementary in his post game of the crowd. I also think that Cuse win was one of only a few losses in their National Championship season.

Never followed basketball closely in either NBA or college until Pikiell was hired. Went to only one NBA game when I was like 5 and never been to a college game. But after these first 2 games I just looked at my girlfriend and asked her if she wanted to go Friday night. The fact that Pikiell is getting people like me this excited and wanting to go to games is so awesome

That's part of building a program.

Yeah the A-10 Championship was loud but we were loud a lot under Wenzel....the one thing we used to do...and I hope is still done...was hammer the wood decking to make more noise....between the yelling and foot stomping it got insanely loud in there!

That game was insanely loud. I was about 10-15 rows behind the Rutgers bench and they allowed the overflow to sit on the steps in the aisles....crazy. It was literally standing-room-only and they let people in without seats. I agree with you in that in was probably louder than the A10 Championship because Penn State fans were allotted a chunk of the tickets so that game was was not a true home court.

The Missouri game was also before backs on the seats in the sections behind the benches and I think the entire section stood on them for most of the game. The person next to you could not hear you for most of the game.

None of the games since then were as loud to me. Hopefully, these fun times are on their way back.

No cell phones back then, fans actually watched the games

Agreed. I was there too. Remember for the A 10 championship game, which was deafening, RU had to give a couple thousand seats to PSU fans because it was a tournament game. When it’s 100% RU fans it might even be a little louder.
