Wisconsin is 8-6 and 0-1 in the Big 10 having lost their conference opener to Purdue
Wisconsin is a shocking 6-4 at home, cant remember a season where they lost so many home games...especially to the likes of Western Illinois and Milwaukee.
The Badgers best win was at Syracuse in OT and their worst loss was Western Illinois in the season opener.
Greg Gard is the new head coach but he has coached only 2 games
Wisconsin nearly blew a 30 point lead to Green Bay last week as they turned it over 26 times and wilted under the Green Bay pressure. They won by 5.
Wisconsin faces a gauntlet after the Rutgers game...at Indiana, Maryland, at Northwestern, and Michigan State, they are likely to be underdogs in all 4 and if they don't beat RU, 0-6 start to the Big 10 season is quite possible
Wisky averages just 69.4 ppg which puts them at 259 in the country, 2nd worst in the Big 10 and only slightly lower than RU's average.and allow 64.7 ppg which is good for 53 nationally.
At just 41.6% Wisconsin is shooting worse than Rutgers who shoots 42.8% and the Badgers 33% on 3 pointers in near the bottom of the Big 10. In fact Wisconsin is near the bottom in just about every offensive category in the Big 10 except free throws. Note that Wisconsin has 3 players ranked in the top 10 in rebounding in the Big 10.
Wisconsin generally plays just a 7 man rotation
Nigel Hayes is their leading scorer and Ethan Happ is a warrior in the paint.
This game wont be a shootout. Wisconsin seems to be a slow grind it out type of team this year which isn't unusually except last year they would make a lot of shots and this year they just don't have any consistent firepower. RU is not at its best in the halfcourt game so they must value possessions, rebound, and continue the excellent ball movement we have seen the last two games. While I don't foresee a win, this is the type of game that RU could hang around. Wisconsin isn't the type of team to be able to blow RU out of the building but their defense is still good and if RU isn't hitting 10 points might as well be 20.
