I have a bigger issue with a conference champion being sent to the first four. I think that the final 8 at large teams should have to play in the first 4. While the talent level on these teams may exceed the conference champions from the lower conferences; they did not win their conference and should be the teams that do not get the full NCAA experience.
Is this some kind of joke? RU has not made the NCAA since 1991, and hasn't made the NIT since 2006, and our fans are already whining about a possible seed in some distant year? Oh my goodness.
Honestly agree with both sides. The first four doesn't make an ounce of sense to me but would take it in a heartbeat to put an end to our NCAA drought.
Sorry. I thought it was a joke, or some kind of performance art. If it was just a question, the answer is: "no."Yeah seriously. Chill out. Just a question for conversation.
That's not how it works. The last four at large teams play each other (this year if they win they advance as an 11 seed) and the last four other teams play (conference winners from 4 worst leagues usually) to advance as a 16 seed. This is no way we can make the tournament and be a 65 to 68 seeded team.
...we ended up in the First Four in Dayton?
I hate the First Four/Play-in games. Get rid of them.
The first 4 games started because a minor conference split, and the power 6 refused to give up an at large bid, so they created that first play-in game. I think the first 4 are stupid, and should be eliminated. If anything (and I can't remember who) I would have made the conference that split play each other every year to get in and left the tournament alone at 64.
I disagree with this take. The better teams should get the preferential positions. It is athletics, not some social justice thing. The truth is that those small conference teams are lucky to be included at all... they should have to play each other in play-in games. If they are truly deserving of the better spots then they should win the play-in and then win the 1st round.I have a bigger issue with a conference champion being sent to the first four. Agree. Even from the perspective of the NCAA, I dont get it. Surely 11 vs 11 is going to get alot more viewers than 16 vs 16.I have a bigger issue with a conference champion being sent to the first four. I would not be bummed at all.
However, my biggest fear is that we go in as a 1 seed and become the first team to lose to a 16 seed.
I would be more pissed if got to the tourney and ended up playing a conference foe the first round that you have already played at least twice. There is some talk of them getting rid of the no "same conference" games in the early rounds and trying to do more actual seeding.

Not one bit. We'd be the media darlings, just like Northwestern is now. Except we're in the media capital of the world so it would be even more pronounced. We now have the longest NCAA tournament drought, so that type of positive publicity would go a long way. Of course nj.com would rehash the whole Rice fiasco, but even they would have to give us props. Well, maybe they would....we ended up in the First Four in Dayton?

My opinion is basically the opposite of this.
I think the first four is kind of stupid in itself, but if you are going to do it, it should be the four worst teams. Having a play-in game into an 11 seed is just dumb.
