WrestleStat Rankings for 12/22/2015

Of the 10 ranking services this one, wrestle stat probably the worst. Only good for looking at head to head results. Flo, Intermat, Win, etc etc all,do much more research.

Tsirtsis down to #42.... he's having a bad year....

not familiar, but maybe the rankings work themselves out as everyone gets more matches under their belt.

Relax hawk..he's not jumping on the OP...just pointing out what a lot of us already know..I mean c'mon Tsirtsis ranked #42? This poll isn't worth much...But still fun to look at...which is basically what Abro said...

I personally like the one from Intermat best but this guy is just trying to provide a free service on his own time.

ok that's great... but it still doesn't mean it cant be criticized...

I suppose, but its a lot like criticizing Massey or the BCS computers....sort of pointless. The problem here seems to be that a lot of people don't understand that it is a computer generated ranking. The way to criticize a computer ranking is to suggest why the scoring system is leading to biased or inaccurate results.

Like most computer systems, its fun to look at early on to see the discrepancies, but it doesn't mean a whole lot. Like any computer program, it is driven by input. Later in the season, it should more closely match what we all think about who is best.

ande, sorry to rain on your parade, all new posters welcome, all info is fun to peek at, no big deal. My apologies. You write or publish that site, right? It must be time consuming. What's your home team, iowa?

Yes, I developed the site. Obrats has been giving A LOT of his time to help with the data entry as well, for the past 2 years. Can't thank him enough!

Yes, I'm an Iowa fan.

By the way, there is still some wierdness in the ranking engine. Like another poster said, it will all work itself out once there's more data. Without having more data right now, the best that I can do is look at each individual anomoly (Tshirt at #42, Cody Pack at #38) and try to figure out why the engine is penalizing them so much. But as soon as I make a tweak that works for those anomolies, then new anomolies rear their head (all because I don't have enough data to make it work for ALL wrestlers).

If you'd like to learn more about the algorithm, check out Wikipedia for the Elo Rating system, used in Chess, and some online game websites, including Yahoo Games.

That seems like a lot of work. If u enjoy it God bless. IMO the rankings can only be done with real homework and research. Like if ran my own I would use Tsirtis as a example. Because of his great history. If he started the year 0-2 i would still have high. Flo does this well. A perfect example is BJ Clagon. If he started like this last year he wouldn't be ranked not even close. But because he is AA he gets some leeway. Low and behold he lost 2-1 to Zain the #1 ranked guy. I do love the compare dual option on the site. That's really cool!
