Wrestling after today's results....

My thoughts after today(and as I said in an earlier post, there probably has already been some wrestle-offs and more this week in the room).

125-I have the same feelings as many on here that RU should keep Aguilar on redshirt for at least Nov, Dec....if he is still only beating Metzler by a super slim margin, just redshirt him. This weight will not be a strong weight either way and would rather have Aguilar get adjusted this year.

133-I think at this point it looks clear that NS will be at 133....If this is where he feels best than that is what he should do. More landmines at 133, but I think he will be in the finals at either weight.

141-Expected MVB to beat Cleary and he did. I think Lipari, when he gets back will be a little closer but still think MVB edges him out to remain starter all year.

149-AA-cant wait for him to get out and compete, hope he is completely healed and stays healthy. Weight is wide open and after two semi appearances, I expect him to reach the finals. Benner will probably give AA a break if needed(with Santos out with knee and redshirting, look for Benner to shirt next year with Santos back).

157-I thought JVB would win and match went as expected. JVB ranked 9th for a reason, after the heartbreak last year hoping he gets on the podium this season.

165-Glasgow-gonna be tuff for him at 165, he will be undersized and this is his first year in a college room(wish we had someone to go 165 and he could redshirt). He is a super talent, but remember it is his first year in the room. Going to have a hard time on bottom at 165. But I look for him to be much better in Jan/Feb than he is right now.

174-Grello(although Scott will push him). Again like others, thought Grello would start to separate from the pack. Still early but this is a little concerning.

184-Gravina, should be back soon and Pagano will man the weight till NG is back. Janzer pushing Pagano but cant see pulling his redshirt unless NG gets injured again and he is handling Pagano.

197-I think Wright starts out the season and he and Correnti battle it out. Coach Goodale made it clear that RU needs production from this weight class. Has been some whispers to how hard Correnti works and if Wright is beating him he will be in the lineup.

Hwt-Colucci-upgrade over last season and doubt he gets pushed from other Hwts on roster. He will be start to finish HWT

With NS and AA we will be a better tournament team than dual team...Great schedule and looking forward to Pittsburgh!!!

Would the guy who was suspended have presented a challenge at that weight?

I dont think so. And I dont want anyone to think I am "down" on Glasgow....I think he is going to be very good, however, most wrestlers make their biggest jumps after their first full year in the room. As I said, he will be much better in Jan/Feb than right now.

Can't say I disagree with any of that.

I really was hoping to see Grello pull away as well. This sport ain't easy at this level.

Going to be a fun year with Suriano, Ashnault and JVB. Looking forward to Pittsburgh.

Don’t forget Glasgow was on hiatus last year. He was at prep school and injured. It would be great if u could redshirt him but if not I’d expect him to make a big jump around February. 165 is a loaded weight class so I don’t expect to see him on the podium but he should be lined up to take 157 next year and absolutely be an AA candidate

Honestly I do not think Glasgow qualifies for the NCAA in his first full year without a redshirt. As mentioned already it would have been best to have him redshirt this year with his talent.Unfortunately there is no one else to step in at the weight. He is our best option right now and he will need to adjust quickly to the landmines at 165.He will definitely struggle on bottom been undersized.

I would wrestle Aguilar right out of the box. He's a highly touted recruit and may be our best dual meet wrestler at 125. He can always RS next year, especially if he grows into a 133 pounder. $$$$

Maybe hold Aguilar out and see how he those at the open tournaments before pulling his redshirt.

I need to see more of him early on, but like you I have no issue sending this kid out there. I think he's a talent and 125 has openings this year. If you RS him Shane showed us late last year he can compete at this level. Not worried about this weight.

I think unless a kid is ready to AA as a TF, you redshirt him. My coaching career also peaked at volunteer high school coach. I trust the staff, but overly high expectations burned us in the past. I wouldn't want him to prep to redshirt and then wrestle late in the season. Plan your work and work your plan.

Never seen Glasgow wrestle, but based on what I have heard definitely a real talent. My concern if he is a legit 157 pounder there is a big difference between 157 and 165. To me one of the biggest wt difference in college wrestling. The wt size at 165 could hurt hiim. JMO!!!

Your right the weight difference is going to kill him. He's not going to make NCAA's as a freshman wrestling a weight class up. A talent but too much to overcome. My question is what happened to recruiting for this weight. Why are we so thin at 157 to 165? What the hell happened?

Brett Donner w his issues hasn’t helped.

Several reasons we are thin at those weights. We thought we had McFadden and he chose VT. Grello looked like a stud coming out of Hs and a career 165. Glasgow is a year behind. With JoJo and Kanniard coming in we should be fine moving forward.

Abro you and I both know Donner was nothing more than a career backup. I commend him for his hard work and nothing against the kid but some kids have it at this level some don't.

I thought the McFadden choice came down to money? If the coaches didn't plan ahead of time to allocate enough to the weight, then how could they expect to get him.

I wonder if the staff knew Glasgow was going to need a post grad year? I hope he has the right make-up to handle what might be a difficult year from a win loss perspective. Goodale suggested he has extraordinary athletic skills but I guess 8lbs makes a big difference.

Koleszar - Money wasn't the issue for McFadden. Sometimes there are personal issues that result in a kid leaving his local area. When that is the case there isn't much that can be done.

My mistake, sorry. I read on here it was about money, I was wrong for taking that as gospel without checking facts.

We can't sign every NJ talent. Some of them will definitely leave and for McFadden he is flourishing at the VT tech system with Lewis as another example. As we continue to prove that our local talent can stay and be successful at Rutgers more of them will follow. Ashnault now Suriano hopefully Janzer & Glasgow will follow through in a year or two.

I still find Nick Raimo's commitment to Arizona St a bit strange. That kid would have been perfect at Rutgers , practicing with Suriano, coached by Scott and Pritzlaff. An Italian kid from a public NJ HS. Is he solid to ASU?

Not strange when you have Zeke Jones an Olympic medalist as a coach. He was an Olympic head coach so that's Raimo's draw towards him.

Pritzlaff's credentials are almost as good, no? World Championship Medalist, World Cup Medalist. 2x NCAA champ. 4 time All American.
Yes, Zeke Jones is very impressive, no doubt. I wish Raimo luck. Suriano went to a better program, and yet still transferred back. So, you never know.
Where's Raimo's brother, also a wrestler going? Probably not good enough for a schollie, but still a talented wrestler.

I don't think his older brother Lou wrestles anymore I could be wrong.

Lou does not wrestle anymore , was hoping Rutgers would bring him in and try to get the Talent at Hanover Park to follow him; brother Nick, Merola, g.angelo, Clark, Joey Oliveri

Some kids just wanna leave.

Also, you go on a visit to ASU, Walk by one sorority house, pool party, or really any place where people gather, and you tell me it’s not worth being 18 and there.
