Good thing that we have all americans now. If we didn't, the $/all american would be Infinity (#/0 = infinity)

I was going to make this argument yesterday...but one slight correction #/0 = undefined, as we cannot divide by zero (I have 6 slices of pizza to give out to 0 people, the slices cannot be given out).

Poor use of data...plus they don't even consider how much money each of these teams earned throughout the year that could bring this phantom 'cost per AA' value down.

The costs are actual as reported by the institution. Cost per All-American seemed like a reasonable measure of productivity but I'm open to other metrics. What would you suggest?

The data set includes a revenue measure, but it is polluted by adding the athletic department subsidy to insure that the income statement shows zero operating income.

Cost of stuff in NJ is higher. It is what is is, especially when you consider we're a growing program that's just starting to really bring AA-level talent into the room and develop it properly. (I'm still a little pissed off that Russo and Winston and Mason didn't AA). But somebody above said it correctly ... expenses mean nothing until you take revenue into account. It's why fan support at matches, and donations, are so important.

Measuring programs by something as fluid as annual All Americans is silly. It is a meaningless metric because the number of All Americans in any given year is a poor measure of the program's health. The only thing you can glean from this is that better programs spend more money, and you don't really need any analysis to show that.

IMHO, if you wanted to make this meaningful, to show who is getting "more for their money" it would have to be on longer term, like say 5 or 10 years.

Coming up. Is this an source for Rutger's wrestling All-Americans since 2003?

David Winfrey was from Somerville High School and is in our Hall of Fame. Wonderful man who passed away over a year ago. Great RU wrestler who won the AAU back then as a National Champ.

I think this is cool. thanks for sharing and please keep researching and posting. and yes, the more years you can do the better, but it's easier to say than to do the actual number crunching.

it's good to share how much money it takes for schools to reach the next of athletic success. too often fans take things for granted and say "oh so and so should be top 10 every year" without realizing how difficult that really is.

also yes, the historical data on RU All-Americans from wikipedia is accurate.

Thank you, Jaroslav. Surprisingly difficult to find an authoritative source for # of All-Americans by institution over time. The expense side is easy by comparison.
