Wrestling 2025 NCAA Tourney thread

Must have been offered to the highest of donors/priority points only. I never got an email. When I called in February since I didnt see/hear anything, my rep said the allocation was small and might have said only went to family and those close to the program. RU Screw once again.
I never got that e-mail either and I am a season ticket holder. I did get an e-mail about Big Tens and I went to that.

Let me give you my take on this season since many here are speculating. Was I happy with our NCAA results? No. Was I satisfied with our preparation and effort? Yes. If our 3 blood round guys had won and AA’d we would be saying great season. We did not and fell short. You all know my stance on dual meets which I feel is also important to judge a season’s success. This year was a very successful dual meet season. We are a solid team with no real superstars unlike the Suriano/Ashnault era. Knowing that I did not expect a good NCAA result. Saying we finished behind Little Rock, Purdue, Maryland, etc is meaningless to me. We would beat all of them and did beat most except the top9 or so teams in the NCAAs, I think that deserves merit. People will disagree with that and that is fine. If I fault Goody and staff it is we have not been able to recruit those superstars. Those we have recruited, we have coached up to be close, but unfortunately no brass ring. Could a different coaching staff do better? Maybe but to me loyalty means something, especially since I am one of those 22 people at Goody’s first dual meet.

How about 3 points for an offensive TD and 2 points for defensive TD. I don’t like wrestlers that sit back and wait for the other guy to shoot and then simply look to capitalize. The aggressor should be rewarded. I also don’t understand how guys like AJ Ferrari can sit on top with a claw and thigh-pry for an entire period with zero attempts to turn a guy. He won his only NC by bumping the guy across the mat until they went OOBs. Then reset and repeat. Just chews up clock and you end up with low scoring matches. Just look at his 2-0 match with Cardenas.
Id love the intention of those rules but would hate the application. With all the scrambling and reattacking, I think it would confuse things. That's the right idea though.

wngarbarini, I truly respect your loyalty and especially love the last part of your post, that's pretty cool. We have come a long way!

Although not in your league, I am loyal too. I'm a season ticket holder and pin pool participant, and my admittedly modest NIL contributions go to wrestling. None of that is gonna change.

I also wish that we could have duals decide the team title, I've posted before that it would be like wrestling's version of March Madness or the College Football playoff! Although I do think the quarter-finalists in a dual tournament would end up mirroring the top teams in the individual tournament pretty closely, both require a combination of depth and outstanding individuals.

Having said all that, I understand people questioning the state of the program. There is no sugar-coating 36th place at nationals. It has been six years since we had two national champions. We should be further along than we are at this point. If you look at it objectively, I don't think that is even debatable. I don't have the answers, but I sincerely believe we are capable of being a perennial top 10 program. The years just keep slipping by.

In the meantime, I will keep supporting the program as best I can. Go RU!
