Knox father arrested at state tourney match

Horrible precedent to set. Team sports have rules but individual sports don’t.

Similar things have occurred in basketball football and baseball with different results and teams losing their “rites to post season play” all without due process.

I don’t disagree but again on the technical side, Vianney isn’t hosting the event so the spectators aren’t their problem. Also, if Vianney suspended him for all of this the same due process stuff applies so I think that’s a moot point. There’s really no precedent for this situation.
Per the SJV Student Handbook which the student is required to sign along with a parent:

Parent/Guardian Conduct
Parents/Guardians in the local school community are expected to demonstrate respectful behavior at all times with faculty, administration, support staff, students, and volunteers whether on or off school grounds or at school-related events.

Behavior Outside Of School
The rules of behavior expected of the students of St. John Vianney School during the school time are expected of students any other time or place that they represent St. John Vianney. This is especially important at fundraisers and at athletic events on the school premises, outside of school time, or at sites away from school.

and

CONDUCT AT EXTRA-CURRICULAR OR ATHLETIC EVENTS
D. To practice self-control at all times and accept the decision of staff.
E. To be responsible for their behavior and not influenced by the crowds.

I’m not condoning Knox’s actions or how Vianney is handling it but good luck finding any school that is going to discipline spectators at away games. Many schools disappointingly won’t even do anything at home games, which is why the West Deptford crowd was able to antagonize as much as they did.

West deptford wasn’t “home” the district was in Collingswood.

I find it hard to believe this simply ends with Knox winning #4 and everyone moves on. Unless NJSIAA roles over, I can see Knox winning and then getting stripped later once some judge with half-a-brain gets a hold of this on appeal or the kid that got pummeled presses charges and/or sues.

Right. And the collingswood AD, sight supervisors, and security did nothing to keep the West Deptford crowd under control. They’re a rowdy group who have started problems multiple times this season.

Apparently spectators and security have NOT corroborated the Knox version of verbal abuse. You don’t think Delbarton, CBA, etc. gets abused yet I don’t recall any other instances of father and son ending up in cuffs. Knox Sr. Is acting like a victim and it’s laughable.

I’m sure every away team has gotten their fair share of heckling, private or public. I’ve been to more high school matches in more gyms than I care to count, rarely does it result in an explosion. I’ve repeatedly said that Knox Sr. was the spark that caused everything to blow up, and that everyone involved including Knox Jr. has some level of culpability for what happened.

Knox Jr. has been arrested, the ball is now in St. John Vianney's court
Wishful thinking , I’ve heard mr knox bullies everyone over there and before Knox got there i think they were still rolling out mats in the lunchroom to practice and now they are nationally known

The rolling out the mats in the lunchroom was true. A few years ago they converted a classroom into a dedicated wrestling room

Yea I remember Peterson talking about the no wrestling room situation in an interview a few years back

Knox filed and successfully won a temporary restraining order of the disqualification in Mercer County Superior Court. The decision was released only hours before the start of the Region 7 tournament.

Judge Patrick Bartels, who ruled in favor of Knox last week, heard additional oral arguments luesday at 3:15 p.m., and a ruling on the NJSIAA's motion for a stay pending appeal is expected.

The losing party of that ruling has the option to escalate the case to the appellate division on Wednesday, a day before the wrestling championships begin in Atlantic City.

From what I hear there are a lot of kids paying for CutPro. As if Knox’s lemon/salt/honey mix is how he made weight all these years. If these kids would focus more on wrestling and development instead of the scale may be AC wouldn’t look like a casting call for Snow White and Seven Dwarfs. Simple solution = mat-side weigh-ins would save the wrestling world.

Mat side weigh ins are extremely dangerous. I get the idea in that you want wrestlers to step on a scale at a more natural weight, but all that’s going to happen is wrestlers are still going to cut, wrestle dehydrated and hungry, and put themselves at greater injury risk.

Nah, kids will figure out real quick they need to stop cutting and the net effect is kids will wrestle closer to their natural weight. What these kids are doing now is already too dangerous and stunting their growth.

"The Collingswood police officer who filed the complaint against St. John Vianney wrestler Anthony Knox, Jr. said he witnessed the three-time state champion “proceeded to punch (a minor) about the face and head repeatedly”"

How old is Knox. Assuming he was held back once or twice.

So an officer witnessed him punch a minor and he was arrested and charged and he can still wrestle this weekend? Amazing

It’s really unbelievable when you factor in that it’s caught on camera, charges pressed, plus officer witness. If this was any league, whether little league or pros, he would not be allowed to compete. Bad look for SJV and I’d be interested in knowing what law school the Judge went to LOL

Again, the judge and the case wasn’t about determining whether Knox is guilty of assaulting someone

I can’t say I followed the case/ruling beyond media sources but Judge was never determining guilt it was whether NJSIAA could DQ Knox based on the rules which i guarantee if you gave that order to show cause to a judge in any other county Knox would be at Ithaca right now training.

I don’t know what you need to do to get disqualified. Apparently assaulting juvenile not enough.
The quotes from the Judge make no sense. Due process? NJSIAA violated Knox rights? The “bench area” is what was important? A competitor assaulted a juvenile spectator at a NJSIAA event and it’s on film, with witnesses, charges pressed…Hope NJSIAA appeals because this is a crazy precedent that will have been set.

Yes, the NJSIAA failed to notify Knox after he assaulted a youth and got taken away in handcuffs that they were investigating disqualifying him. Give me a break. These lawyers legislate every piece of common sense out of everything. We should be having more debates about what constitutes a “bench area” because that’s what matters. And the judge had the nerve to reference undermining confidence in the NJSIAA? What about confidence in our legal system to arrive at a common sense outcome?

You need to NOT be a three time champ with a loud mouth, testosterone raged father who needs his son to win the illustrious fourth title. OR, you need to be a high school who has a set of cajones and is willing to discipline your student for breaking the law and violating the code of conduct set forth by the school.

Just a quick question......is Cornell watching all this? I know....stupid question!

They did appeal
