Most likely yesWasn't he also in a fight at the _______________ (insert any tournament name here) tournament?
That is exactly one of the arguments made by the attorney for the NJSIAAI disagree as recently the supreme court has ruled that while students have due process rights that apply to the overall educational experience, it doesn't however extend to individual parts of the educational process such participating in athletic and extracurricular activities. Unless NJSIAA rules state that he is entitled to due process the courts have ruled that there is no free-standing property interest in participating. Just imagine if a school had to provide due process for all discipline items? They would have to have a hearing for something as simple as detention.
The plot thickens. I wouldn't be surprised given the publicity this has generated if charges don't come about. Me thinks Knox Family should zip it and hope this fizzles into nothing. If they press the issue, authorities just might seek to charge Sr. and Jr. which they already might be in the process of doing. I haven't seen anything, but I wonder what the people attacked have said to the police. Eventually, a suit wouldn't surprise me to snag some of that NIL money (still?) coming to Fort Knox. Given the litigious society we live in and the video evidence, it's possible and I'd expect it.The Family argument is he was in street clothes after his match...Hes 19 years old and was on video punching a 16 year old at a HS event...Hes probably lucky he was just dq from State tournament...Thats a Felony in NJ at a Youth event
In the hearing today the defendant's attorney said they submitted a statement from a witness saying Knox Jr had punched him. This is not corraborated by police. He also said the police detained only Sr and Jr and are investigating to decide if any charges should be brought. The plot thickens. FWIW, someone on NJ wrestling Facebook said the minor's family is pressing charges. In the hearing today the defendant's attorney said they submitted a statement from a witness saying Knox Jr had punched him. There wasn't a "bench". Wrestlers not in a match were sitting in the stands, just saying, not defending the action, so there's that.By NJSIAA rules, “any player that leaves the bench area during an altercation, regardless of whether the player engages in the altercation, shall be disqualified,” meaning any wrestler identified in the brawl would be DQ’d for the rest of the season.
Some districts caution tape section of the crowd and they’re labeled for each participating team. Not all districts do that however and rather just stick a piece of paper on the wall. Here's a twist

I get the argument that there wasn't an actual bench area to leave but that doesn't take away from the fact that he was throwing punches up in the stands. Its not like he just wandered out fo the bench area to break up the fight. The argument is that Collingswood did not set up individual areas in the stands for the individual team fans so the security measures were not handled properly.
The lawsuit states that the proper site environment was not put in place therefore it led to the endangerment of the fans and children.
He’s gonna wrestle!
The one thing everybody is overlooking is the poor kid who took a district 4th that got the phone call he was moving to regions. He has to make weight today and he thinks he’s gonna wrestle today and then at 2 o’clock they’re gonna tell him oh no Anthony Knox is gonna wrestle go back home?
You also have to consider intent. Look how he went into the stands? He didn’t walk up and try to separate people. He ran from halfway across the gym and darted up 4-5 bleachers. It’s a shame it all happened, but there are rules, and flying into the bleachers to confront a spectator would appear to violate those rulesDistricts and Regions don't have a bench area. The wrestlers and coaches sit in the stands with everyone else. Some Districts and Regions may break down to one mat for the finals. Schools will place chairs on both sides of the mat for the wrestlers. That can be considered a bench area for the finals.
I think the violation he committed was going into the stands while the team was still participating in a NJSIAA school sanction event. I would think any wrestler would have to follow the sportsmanship policy until the event is finished.
The Parochials rotate through districts, it’s the only way to do it unless you want to give their their own districts and regions. You can’t have the same parochials sitting in the same district year after year. Interestingly, for years region 2 had bergen, bosco and joes in it and no one complained. There’s a lot of variables in the story and hopefully it leads to changes in the way districts are formulated. Vianney should have never been in that district, a bunch of kids made it their mission to overly harass the Vianney wrestlers, and then some parent escalated it even further leading to a giant mess for everyone involved. It was the perfect storm with a number of guilty parties and the only one who gets punished for it, right or wrong, is Knox Jr.
Ultimately I hope the they let him wrestle but there’s going to be controversy no matter what decision they make.
I’ve argued that you can structure a segregated district and region lineup that doesn’t change the field at AC much. I don’t think it would be that difficult either. The Parochials rotate through districts, it’s the only way to do it unless you want to give their their own districts and regions. If the parochials get segregated at the district/region level then NJ should consider not wreslting to a single state champ as the whole complexion of the tournament would change.
Regions 1-8 (Public) get 3 qualifiers per weight class (24)I’ve argued that you can structure a segregated district and region lineup that doesn’t change the field at AC much. I don’t think it would be that difficult either.
I actually like this proposal. Well done Mike!Regions 1-8 (Public) get 3 qualifiers per weight class (24)
Region 9 (Parochials) get 8 qualifiers per weight class.
Nothing changes 32 state qualifiers per weight class.
Yeah I think this could be tweaked slightly but in general I’m on board with something along those lines. It wouldn’t water down the AC field at all, but the path to get there would be cleaner.Regions 1-8 (Public) get 3 qualifiers per weight class (24)
Region 9 (Parochials) get 8 qualifiers per weight class.

Weigh ins are in 25 minutes. May be moot at this point.SJV should suspend Knox from school as a result of his actions & thus he would not be allowed to wrestle.
I bet you would feel differently if your son was one of the kids Knox assaultedEhhh… probably be the wrong decision morally but admittedly, I’m happy that he gets a chance to make history
Again, it’s not very often that somebody this talented comes around, and although I may not agree with how things were handled on their end, the kid is a generational talent
I’m sure I would, and as I said, from a moral standpoint, it was the wrong moveI bet you would feel differently if your son was one of the kids Knox assaulted
How can you be happy about someone who assaulted a minor and is allowed to skirt around the rules of the system just because he is a generational talent?Ehhh… probably be the wrong decision morally but admittedly, I’m happy that he gets a chance to make history

JayDogSmoothI’m happy he gets a chance to make history, not necessarily happy with how things turned out from a moral standpoint
I can separate the two, and be happy for a sports standpoint, but disappointed from moral standpoint
Do any of us know the full story?JayDogSmooth
You’re a rare dude…in most of humanity it’s difficult to laud the accomplishments of those who do bad things
Kudos to you sir
