I'm going to go even further.Bill and I conversed before when I was called out.We emailed each other and had a nice conversation. I told him I was coming out but couldn't make it, because of work issues .Ok...are we done now?
I was thinking the same - wants the job and doesn't like the bad press, both to be expected from a top talent. I hope he gets it turned around.
Soldano has last 8 pins in a row and leads the NCAA with 11 on the year. He can pin anyone as Mr Ruth found out and the way he wrestles, he can lose to average guys. He is super confident now so let’s hope he has a good Midlands.
Agree Bill. Soldano is pinning guys like crazy. However, losing to average guys is still the big problem. Let's see how Midlands goes and how it goes against higher ranked guys. I see the pinning but I also see giving up the leg to get into his comfort spot and I worry that top 20 guys are going to exploit that as usual.
Great assessment. I 100% agree with you. Pinning the average shnook is not really a big feat. If he pins some top fifteen guys like that then we know he's on track to become an all american. Like you said and others he is very hot and cold and big time wrestlers are stronger and have figured him out. It's like Gravina. In the beginning he would hit that slide by and beat top tier talent. As soon as everybody figured he was a one trick pony his wrestling got neutralized. He later started struggling with mid level wrestlers.
Gravina is what i think about when i think RU Tough.
Seeing him with that messed up shoulder and popping it in during an injury timeout, wow.
I know he never AA'd, but he is in my top 5 fav wrestlers.

He was one of my favorites too. Once his shoulder started acting up, his physicality on the mat was noticeably reduced. But he gave it his all and battled like a warrior.
Gravina, Perrotti and Ashnault were my all time favorites.Gravina especially.Modest hs school resume, but really turned it up in college.He is the one I was so saddened to see not AA.
He was up 6-1 in the final before he pinned Gammell. FloArena has the score wrong. I watched all 3 bouts.

At this point SCW is probably safer pick, Soldano has more upside, and ultimately you probably go with the upside once tournaments start unless Soldano completely flops this season
I thought this too after SCW knocked off Stewart but it’s clear now Stewart’s a shell of himself from last year. Soldano still has a nice win over Ruth and has pin on a hot streak, even tho it’s been against weak competition.
SCW had a chance to beat 28th rank Squires and he lost so I’m not as confident he has higher upside.. we know Soldano can beat those 15th-25th ranked guys.. I think at this point Soldano is the safer pick w pin upside.. we will find out at Midlands ..

No I think he might have been what he says but he is a disgraced AA who the school wants nothing to do with ...he was so proud of himself he hid for years under two other aliases that got banned for his disgraceful attacks on our kids to the point that the parents had to step in and his reply was to challenge them to a fight in the parking lot which he never showed up to because he flexed his keyboard muscles from across the country and was then banned from here ...he came back under his current alias and is just as disgraceful as before...

He graduated around the time Goody came to RU, so it was a natural progression. Watched some of the kids that schooled him in high school have success (Mike Grey) and opponents of the other team (Zach Rey) go on to AA. I was hooked when RU started getting AA's.
I will be at the Minnesota match if anyone wants to meet.

People become fans of all sports without ever having participated. My wife loves football, but the closest she got to the field was as a cheerleader. Our high school wrestling coach never wrestled, yet developed a very successful program that produced multiple state champions and some that went on to wrestle at Rutgers. Few people know that about him.
Speaking of Mike Grey, it is amazing how Delbarton has become this powerhouse across the board in all sports. I remember for some odd reason,my hs coached arranged a preseason quad meeting with Delbarton, Seton Hall Prep, Boonton and us.Where he came up with these teams and how he arranged it was beyond me.Delbarton, from what remember was like this beautiful campus with incredible buildings.Kind of neo gothic.We got to their wrestling room and they had like 6 guys on the team and half of them were wearing tennis sneakers. Anyway, it wasn't really much of a workout as the best kid from all 3 of those other teams was like a region runner up.
My HS used to kick the shit out of Delbarton (at wrestling). I really wish kids repped their local school again.
What hs where you at? Who was the toughest you wrestled? I will always say in hs, Chris Catalfo and in college,Nate Carr (although I beat him).The toughest guy I have ever wrestled ( it was only at the Lehigh camp) was Darryl Burley.Smaller than me but so strong and fast.Not a technican, but a tough SOB.

Lastly, I think the only thing that would be truly more pathetic than pretending to be an all American wrestler from 50 years ago is to actually be who you say you are but still cling to that accomplishment and feel the need to remind everyone about it, and all the meanwhile the school you represented when you accomplished that feat wants nothing to do with you.
