You do realize that when the new coach talks about changing the culture....

....around Rutgers football, that he is referring to the kind of fan mentality that has a conniption over GS going to OSU, and makes 15 threads about it, right?

I know it is difficult for fans to have an internal focus on the Rutgers program, but that's kind of the entire key to the new culture.

Externally focused people spend the time and emotions complaining about other programs, columnists whose job it is to have opinions that get people talking, officiating and recruits that haven't chosen to be a part of their favorite program.

Internally focused people focus on noticing where improvements can be made, whether it's on the field, or in the culture around their program.

We can start changing the culture by people getting to their seats before kickoff, not half way through the first quarter. How about learning for once when to stand and make noise. How about not booing every time a kid makes a mistake on the field. Then there is the foul language spewed by a few around families. That would be a good start IMHO.

I'll be happy if he fixes the culture of the football team and the athletic department somewhat.

If anyone here thinks Rutgers Football or this new coach is going to change the way NJ people think about the University, the Athletic Department or the FB team they are delusional.

NJ don't care.

I guaran-damn-tee you that when Ash talks about culture change, the fan base is NOT what he is talking about.

Its not just RU fans it's people from NJ. The alums that do it for RU do it for PSU, Cuse, and other schools. Go to their boards and you see the same nonsense for their teams. They also often quote NJ.com.... and I wonder why? The connection is the anxiety prone mentality of being from this area.

The 2006 season proved your point is wrong. If we had Ohio State's football success we would have Ohio State's support from the people of NJ

If you think 20K frontrunners is a culture change OK then. They still won't donate or send their kids there. Just watch football.

As long as he changes f.a.m.i.l.y. That is the corniest junk ever. When I heard what that meant I was surprised any high school recruit would go to Rutgers.

What were the first words of the man's introductory press conference?

"We need some smiles here."

Take the hint.

This is a pro sports fanbase and Ash knows it. Smiles are an output, not an input. Effect a culture change in the TEAM, win some games, and there will be smiles aplenty.

You're right. And he will leave the contrived bullshit left behind by Gary and Elmer Fudd. I feel really good about this hire, because I feel we finally have a real coach who can take us to the next level.

Quickest way to change the culture is to put a winning team on the field. Fans are more positive when their team is winning, not the other way around. We can be as positive as hell and it ain't gonna change a damn thing on the field.

I disagree with you Screw, we win and that all changes.
Also agree with OP, GS took a job, good for him

I'm not advocating people stop being critical altogether......it just would have made a lot more sense for people to discuss GS to OSU in just one thread rather than 15 threads that really give off the feel of an overly obsessive fanbase about this topic.

it took one very good, not excellent year to get us to a waiting list for season tickets.... maybe if we strung two, three such years in a row we have huge ticket demands and
donations that follow that.....

I call BS on the OP and all those who agree.

EVERY fan base is both internally and externally UNfocused.

The Rutgers fanbase is no different than any other in that regard.. but we are largely Jersey people who say what they think and feel in an unfiltered way. If that is the culture change being attempted.. well.. good luck with that.

nothing can fix this board, but it is a fan board, it is what it is, it is not a big deal, it is just for fun. I would suggest not taking every thread here so seriously, make fun of the dumb stuff and create the type of discussions that you want to have here.
