What happened with his minutes? He seemed to play a much greater role over the past 3 or 4 games. Only 11 minutes today?

He got real angry at one point, maybe coach P. thought he was a little out of control?

When we were struggling to score in the second half Pike could have gone to him again to see if he could bring a spark I thought but he had a poor first half. He will have fresh legs for the garden

last two games have been subpar from him so have to keep an eye on that....remember that it was the Caldwell game Dec 30 he blossomed and ever since then..but all games during break...no school is back and maybe that could have an effect, just a theory

Wondering if he got hurt? Was just looking at my video from alma mater and didnt see him although he could have been hidden behind a player

Too many TO's. Pike correctly sat him. He was out of control tonight. But he will see it on film, which will prepare him better for the next game.

Pike went with experience. Purdue had good defenders on the ball and that pressure can hurried a player up and get them out of running the O. That’s why Paul and Young didn’t play much.

I guess either Young or McConnell's minutes needed to shrink with Gio getting more time?

And while Young has been good, McConnell has been really, really good.

Paul is not an offensive threat and we need him to be before he plays more

Jacob is a liability in the court and should only play enough to give a quick rest for a starter then back to the bench

Mcconnell more Jacob less

Young is a turnover machine. He continues to play selfishly and clearly lacks judgment. Five turnovers in 11 minutes, including another palming call after two in the last game. Does anyone know the +- when he is playing.

When Young is good he's very good and when he's bad it's bad. Also saw tonight other then some of his usual palming, high dribbling and turnovers, was some anger management issues.

You are conflating scoring with being an offensive threat. Paul creates offense often, he just doesn't score often.

Jacob has been great the last month or so, he had a rough game last night and coach played the hot hands, which he tends to do with this very egalitarian team. Saying he's a liability broadly is absurd.

He also sat Mulcahy as both times they came in in the first and second half we saw our lead evaporate

Young got shaken up pretty good when he collided with someone in 2nd half. Don't think he played after that. Not sure if the collision is reason why as he was a little out of control prior to that as well.

I stand by my opinion that Jacob is a liability on offense more than a benifit. As to Paul, I was talking about his shooting or not shooting,
Not his running an offense

He lacks the confidence at this point, which is fine, it will come

I think this correctly addresses why neither player played a lot

Some nights you just dont have it. You arent going to keep sticking someone out there if you think they are off their game.

That and his t/o's. It happens expect him back for UM, he will be integral against Simpson if he isnt suspended still.

I think Paul knows and plays within his role. As an upperclassmen he will take more of those threes.

He does lack the lateral quickness and ball handling of the others though.

I think we are 15-5 so if my math is correct we have played 20 games. We have a significant sample size to go on. Players are not how they performed in their last game, best game or worst game.

Please use all 20 in any judgement of a player.

Especially this season when we have multiple different leading scorers on any given night.

Young had an off night, while Baker is rounding back into form - both are pressures that would reduce his minutes. I wonder if the loss of minutes to a healthier Baker is making him press more during the minutes he's on the floor, feeling like he has to do more with less time - which might explain why it felt like he was pressing to do too much and turning the ball over.

Depends on the game. I agreed with you through December, but then he carried us in a few games this month. You have to ride him when he gets hot and bench him when he’s not feeling it (just like Pike did)

The turnovers, combined with Montez having an absolutely great game on both sides of the ball, limited the need for young in this one

Amazing how some fans opinions of individual player's long term value to the team changes from game to game. Did you like JY tonight when he took it baseline and made that pretty and athletic reverse lay up? Yes 5 TO's is unacceptable and he does seem to be reverting to some bad judgments but he was very effective when we needed him while Geo was out and clearly has a significant role to play from here on out. I don't get the palming calls. I think that is something that could be called on many guys and you wonder if somehow he has gotten a reputation for this whether it's fair or not. He may have been injured and thus unavailable in the second half. If that is not the case, and Pike was sending a message, then hopefully it was clearly received.

This was my guess. An opposing coach (or a few) told the refs to look out for it and now they are.

Right before one of commercial breaks you could see ref walking over to Jacob to talk to him, looking pissed

Jacob is not a liability. Did you watch the Penn st, Nebraska, Minny, or Illinois games? Yes, he is streaky but there have been long stretches this year he has carried us on O. Purdue was a poor matchup for him and he absolutely struggled but against bigger slower teams he's a weapon.

This is not even mentioning the fact he has been a ++ defender for us against quicker guards. No one on the roster brings the skills he has and its why he is critical to our success. He reminds me of the JR Smith type.

When he's on he can be the most important player on the floor, when he's not it can get bad.
