OT: Major winter storm 3/20-21?

Union, Essex, Hudson, Bergen, and Passaic are all under the jurisdiction of the NWS office in NYC; rest of NJ is under NWS-Philly office.

That seems asinine considering how close union and middlesex counties are to nyc. Like 5 mins away from Elizabeth and Perth Amboy.

I dont think you are getting into any 1.5-2 an hour bands....I think thats going to be for the coastal sections....we let up considerably after 6 and probably only have about 6.5 now here

everyone will get snow for the next 3-4 hours of varying intensity and then it really tapers off some may pick up heavier bands but generally the worst is over as long as you are not in those coastal areas

I'm on the Jackson/Howell border, just measured in a bunch of spots we have about 6". That's on the grass of course. With approximately 6 hours left to go in this storm, I'm dreading waking up in the morning. Last storm was a bust for us, that stuff was completely gone by mid-day. This one isn't.

Over the last few hours it's been accumulating at an alarming rate. My grill went from like 2" to 6" in no time. But Bac and #'s have been warning us that the eastern part of the state would be getting our fair share later in the night. I just chose not to believe them. As of 8 pm, we have 8.0" for 0.5" in the last hour. Despite the radar still looking healthy, snowfall rates have gone down, by measurement. I wonder if a little bit of that is compaction. Anyway, pretty sure we'll get to 10" with several more hours of snow to come and an outside shot at 12" as the HRRR has me getting about 4" more by midnight or so. If we can get back under one of those 1.5-2" per hour bands for a bit, that would do it.

As of 9 pm we have 9.0" for 1" in the last hour, as the snow definitely picked up again - I've been outside for the last 45 minutes doing my second shovel (right after the plows plowed me in - always key to get that crap up before it sets like concrete) and we definitely had a fair amount of heavy snow. Also, made the obligatory snow angel. Radar still looks great with what looks like at least another hour of 25-30 DBZ snows rolling in off the ocean, so I'm sure we'll make 10" - big question is do we make it to my prediction of 12"? Didn't really think we had a chance after last night's model runs, but I'd say it's 50-50 right now. Still 31F.

Thanks for this update. I live in Fair Haven but I’m currently snowed in in Bermuda. No flights out to NYC area until late tomorrow. No planes could get here today and so no flights out tomorrow early. My wife took the kids to my inlaws up north so I had no clue what to expect when I get back home and need to dig out. I live in Wayne, PA just minutes from Valley Forge. Still snowing here, at 10:23 PM..., and we have well over a foot. I would estimate it between 15-18 inches.

I shoveled my garage three times today. Each time when there was between 5-6 inches. Wrapped up my third shoveling an hour ago, and the damn driveway is all white again.

Too funny, we moved to Howell just 5 years ago. Couldn't take the summers in Belmar anymore. But it was a helluva lot of fun when I was younger. Plus I married a Cook college graduate, so I had no choice but to buy a farm.:)

Over the last few hours it's been accumulating at an alarming rate. My grill went from like 2" to 6" in no time. But Bac and #'s have been warning us that the eastern part of the state would be getting our fair share later in the night. I just chose not to believe them. I think it was just wishful thinking on my part.:) Tomorrows going to suck, we have a small farm and animals to shovel out.

Does having 2 kids under 2 and 2 stupid dogs count as a farm? Because then I do too.

As of 9 pm we have 9.0" for 1" in the last hour, as the snow definitely picked up again - I've been outside for the last 45 minutes doing my second shovel (right after the plows plowed me in - always key to get that crap up before it sets like concrete) and we definitely had a fair amount of heavy snow. Also, made the obligatory snow angel. Radar still looks great with what looks like at least another hour of 25-30 DBZ snows rolling in off the ocean, so I'm sure we'll make 10" - big question is do we make it to my prediction of 12"? Didn't really think we had a chance after last night's model runs, but I'd say it's 50-50 right now. Still 31F.

We made double digits. As of 10 pm we have 10.0" on the ground. Nice! Still 31F. If those 25-30 DBZ bands rotating in from the NE can hold together for 2-3 more hours, we might just make 12". I think 11" is almost a given. With some of the numbers we're seeing all over the place being 10" or more (or will be) we may owe the NWS some apologies. I'll admit I was skeptical of getting to 8" let alone 10 or 11".

Islip recorded 4" of snow - 4 inches! - in the last hour. That's unbelievable. Some places on LI are going to make it to 15" or more and a bunch of places near the Shore are going to make it to 10" or more in the last 4-5 hours (Lakewood at 10.5").

What is funny about these numbers is Uwchlan, which is actually where I live, and Exton are probably a mile or two apart, yet the numbers are 1.5 inches different.
