here we go

1.) you can see the potential dripping with Myles Johnson. He has the atributes you need in to be a great big guy. Hands, balance, footwork, coordination. This kid has a great basketball feel....and his explosion timing is much better than you think. Needs one more year of S&C. If he gets quicker with his foot speed ....this guy has big time potential. He will learn to anticipate better to get there faster on help defense as experience comes...but this guy has legit potential to be a double digit scorer at the five as junior and senior

2.) Mathis future lies at the three. This kid is going to be that athletic swingman we have not had in so long. He needs to get MEAN out there. This will be b a game that he scores 20 as a junior, with the game coming to Him, when he attacks every shot stronger and makes his free throws. He has that upper body that can get right into someone else’s chest on the bounce and get that strong shot off. He is going to be our lock down defense in a couple of years...

3.) the ball movement was terrific. No more vacuum cleaner ball.

4.) Eugene is just a basketball player now ...period. He is tough. He is definelry replacing freeman numbers this year...and very much within our offenseZ

5.) people know I have been critical of Issa. Well, he DID improve. He will have a role this year. For him to really make the move up, and I’m not sure this will happen, the key his his fluidity on both offense and defense. He still was a partial step behind the rythem all night..:but used his speed and athleticism to “Catch up”. If he can get his speed, balance and timing to be ON TiME....then he really hits his potential and can be that 10-12 scorer at the SF in an efficient manner on this team. He will have to learn that...otherwise, and this is a good thing, I think he will eventually be passed and be a role player. (and we need those too)

6.) 12/20 from three was done in such a good way. Extra pass, proper spacing, so few pull up chucks

7.) kiss is very fluid and crafty. The type of player we have not had in so long

8.) Harper just screams star. Period. He will need time to develop....but you see the skills.

9.) concern part one...we need to learn to NOT let other teams come into our gym and get comfortable. Period.need the instentity right from the opening tip. Long time criticism of mine. FDU was comfortable early. Something we need to learn to be a winning program someday

10.) concern two. Our rotation defense was very slow for the first 10-12 minutes. Caused not only issues with no help....but got us out position to box out and why the rebounding numbers weren’t acceptable in the first half relative to who we played. Something to expect to be a work in progress

11.) lastly ...the ball moved so much better today. Lot less ball screens and lot more screens away. Different offense for different personnel

Thiam passed up about 3 to 4 3s that if he was decisive enough in his game, he launches and probably makes another 3 pointer or 2....

Everything here Shack i agree with...the give and take with Myles will be rotating on defense and avoiding fouls...but the upside on feeling like he can make a pass on offense, gives the entire offense a lift. 3 assists is a huge number in 20 minutes.

I cannot imagine what the movement will be like as we move forward and then add other playmakers who share the ball like Mulcahy and Young, who has quickness and ability off the dribble. I know that's a full year away, but in a small sample size, Mulcahy and Johnson on offense with the rest of this roster developing, creates a totally different feel for how RU plays basketball.

Very good write up, Shack.

4). And not only will Eugene replace Freeman’s numbers, but he will do it within a team-oriented sharing offense. He will put up Freeman-like points with a lot less shots taken to do so. And I believe he will play better defense.

8) YES! Who were the posters that said Harper should redshirt this year? Harper looked awesome on offense in just 17 minutes of play. Exactly what this year’s team needed and if he can be a plus defender also...watch out!

hopefully the problems on D and FDU getting comfortable was just opening night jitters. 5 minutes left in first half, and the entire second half, the easy buckets disappeared and so did the offensive rebounds FDU was getting early.

That game was a thing of beauty, and that’s knowing that this team still has lots of room for improvement and oozes potential.....as Pike says, we shared the game

We are building a team that is engineered to score in the upper 70s...which you have to have to be able to scratch out games in the 60s and at 70 in February/March when the games bog down

We have a chance

Myles had 3 assists from the 5 spot, but he had a few "hockey" assists too, getting the break started
