We take the 3rd least 3s per field goal attempted in the country. If we all of the sudden stop taking midranges and just start hoisting up three pointers do you truly think that we would be hitting at your numbers
It's a basic tenet of modern basketball that the long 2 point jumper is the worst shot in the game. It isn't the "midrange" shot from like 8 or 10 feet, it's the jump shots from behind the FT line and almost to the 3 pt line that are just horrible.
It doesn't matter what the exact numbers are. If Player A only shoots 27% on 3s, he probably isn't making much more than 30% from a foot or two inside that. That's how shooting works. The thing with 3s is the 50% bonus every time you make one. If you shoot 40% from 3, you have to shoot 60% on the long 2 just to break even. If you shoot 30% from 3, you have to shoot 45% on the long 2 to break even. If you shoot 20% from 3, you have to shoot 30% on the long 2 to break even.
You should almost never take a long 2 point jumper unless it's late in the shot clock and the only good look you can get.
