FB Recruiting 2022 OL Dantae Chin commits to Rutgers Football

Maxpreps has him ranked as the 241st player. In the state of Florida.

Chin is the type of recruit Schiano developed his first go-round to build the program into a respected one.
Also getting back into Florida's fertile recruiting ground can't be taken lightly when trying to connect with the top talent in that area

Getting a recruit that might be considered 2nd tier talent in an area with a lot of talent, might be the same as grabbing a 1st tier talent from an area that doesn't have numerous HS. talent there

Very few HS OL players start their freshman season and are given time to develop their skills.
Many times one not considered a top recruit becomes a top OL started once he gees To a college devolopment program.
Dantae has the size and can be a good one if the staff can bring out the talent

I'm not saying either way but is 241 in the state is second tier?

Like I said, it's either the biggest steal of the century or the biggest reach. I will say OL recruiting is very hard to project after the first handful of can't miss guys.

Only played football for one season, plays basketball too, has the frame/size you want with the chance to put on more muscle. Lots of potential in this one. Welcome to Rutgers, Dantae!

Definitely like big dudes that played hoops. Especially for projects. Those guys can usually move their feet.

My own, non expert ,opinion is: 1 to 150 is top tier in states with an abundance if talent.

FWIW, two things
Gus Zilinskas had no P5 offers, and he is starting his freshman year and doing well.

Looked at TOS's top 250 players in Florida, and not a lot of OTs listed, rough count of 16, with Florida taking an OT ranked at 195, Maryland taking an OT ranked at 180 and Ole Miss taking an OT ranked at 176. As others have noted, he is probably a late bloomer flying under the radar.

Did you see the article: "Now this was only Chin's first year of playing football, so he has flown under the radar a bit. "
I would not expect the rating services to be that familiar with him.

OL is the hardest position to project outside the top guys. Seems like a lottery ticket dart throw to me, which is fine to have a kid or two every year like that

He’s got the attributes to be very good: quick feet, good punch, drives his man out of the play. When’s the last time a Rutgers OL did that? One year with Jay Butler, and he’ll be good to go. May be our most impressive get yet.

I just hope he sticks. Always a bit concerned when a player comments over the phone and hasn't met the coaches or been on campus. But let's roll!

Signing day is in a little more than 15 days. I think he sticks.

The last six verbals to the program have been only 5.5 recruits. GS must be slipping.
Also, that makes seven OL recruits in the 2022 class so far.

We don't know about the competition. But on the video, the kid is tenacious,

1st year playing competitive football after concentrating on hoops. Rivals yet to rate, and I don't know if they rate during the season. His rating will be interesting.
