2024 Ken Pom

Last year's B1G scoring averages:

80.1 ppg: Iowa (Nobody is surprised they are #1! Also worst in pts allowed per game at 74.7...)
72.2 - 74.7 ppg: Penn State, Ohio State, Purdue, Michigan, Illinois, Indiana
70.9 ppg: Michigan State
69.7 ppg: Maryland
68.4 ppg: Rutgers

I can easily see us at 72-74 ppg with just a slightly higher tempo. Especially if this year's team is able to press more often (Mag, stay healthy!), leading to more easy buckets.

Didnt Pike run an up-tempo offense at Stonybrook? I thought his hallmark there was fast pace, no defense.

Here Pike had recruiting challenges relative to his conference peers. He could get athletes, but not scores. So he coached to what he had. Now he has scorers. My bet is that we see significantly worse defense, and significantly better faster offense. So I don’t think the preseason talk is just hype. I assume both our tempo and D efficiency stats moving toward the average. how good the team will be will depend on whether or not the defense regresses less than the offense improves.
Pike has said he won the league with both the best defensive and best offensive teams before

Pike's history shows he is willing to adapt to the talent on his team which to me is a sign of a great coach

It's easier to rebuild by preaching defense rebounding and toughness. You can't come into a #dumpsterfire program and immediately recruit elite offensive talent. Pike built the program up and now is at a point where he is able to reel in better offensive talent. He isn't going to hold them back. Pike will play to their strengths and unleash them

Pike's last year at Stonybrook, they averaged 76ppg.
prior to that 65, 71, 68, 66
His last season at Stonybrook the team made 38 percent of its threes in conference only games and was the third most efficient offense in the conference (111.8). Their tempo...next to last.
