The age doesn't bother me, I would have liked more than the 1 year of OC experience at JMU. That's my concern but I like that he's been around Herman for 6 years. I don't think it's an exact analogy to guys like Frost/Spavital/Lashlee/Littrelll who were/are young P5 OCs. All of them worked under an offensive HC in Helfrich, Sumlin, Malzahn, Fedora. I think that is a difference. As for Riley he went out to and worked as an OC at the mid major level for a few years and proved himself before the step up to P5 OC.
This is 1 year as JMU OC/1 year WR coach and now a jump to P5 OC, that's a big leap without the umbrella of an offensive HC or a little longer time spent as OC at a lower level. So I don't think you can make the same analogy with him to the others mentioned.
That being said I'm not down on the guy, I'm just even keel about him. I like him better than I did McDaniels when he got hired, Rossi, Brock, Flood etc..I was very concerned about them and doubtful of how much success they would have here. He's also seems like he could be one of those Texas offensive guys who usually do a good job of pumping out strong offenses. It's B12 country and they're good at that. So I think he's got a better chance of success here than some of our past coordinators. I think he'll be a good recruiter for us too. I also think it's possible a co-OC might be named witth Mehringer running the show. It seems to be a model for some Meyer coaches like Herman, Withers.
