40 Minute Highlight of the Houston Cougar Offense in 2015

Just because the current Houston QB is a running QB it doesn't mean every QB in this system needs to be a running QB. I'm sure he will work with a gun slinger instead of a runner.

Isn't our guy the WR coach there, not OC? He may do something different

The kind of offense that was run with the back-up qb is more like what we will see until we recruit a dual threat qb. Lots of 5-wide shotgun sets, quick easy passes. Russo will do fine

You don't see intermediate passes over the middle or near traffic. Most passes are dumps to RBs, long balls, or into the flats where defenders are still upfield. That's how OSU won NC last year

Looking forward to running the offense that always seems to tear our defense apart. Guys wide open with ease.

As an Eagles fan, I will say this about the spread: without a good line or a running QB, it's damn hard to run consistently from the gun since you need to go 4-5 yards just to get back to the line of scrimmage.

It was a beautiful thing 2 years ago when we had all-pro linemen and Vick occupying an edge defender. Now with a patchwork line and no-knees Bradford, we end up with a ton of 3rd-and-longs and three-and-outs because we can't win early downs consistently.

For those who don't watch the Eagles, we are in shotgun literally 95% of the time (and spread 80%), regardless of down.

I don't want to start a new thread on the possible new Rutgers Offense (IMO, depending on 2016 personnel but what do I know). But here's a youtube of the U of Houston vs Temple in the AAC CCG:

The Tom Herman spread offense is based upon getting as many skill position athletes on the field at the same time. The QB's job is to get the ball to his skill position athletes in space via pass or hand off. The QB needs to be mobile but it is not based on a QB run first or run second option. The QB only really runs to keep the defense honest and when things break down. This offense is not an option spread offense. The QB's on our roster and those that we are recruiting will be fine with the proper coaching.

The Houston QB in this tape is running against Tennesee Tech, SMU, UCF etc.....not exactly tOSU, MSU, Michigan, Wisconsin, Nebraska, TTFP

Hermann ran the offense with National Champ Ohio State last season. Urban Myers has run a version of this offense with Utah and Florida.
