One of the guys I watched the game with tonight had us focus on our right tackle.
Ouch. It was painful....especially for our backs and quarterback. #71 wasn't so impressive either.
We got beat in the trenches on both sides of the ball. We were never winning this game.

Who was Denman lined up against mostly? Also, it's amazing when you are forced to play a RS F on the OL huh (muller replacement)?

Go away please you are a good poster. But stick your nose in during some touchy times. Starting to wonder if your not doing this on purpose maybe to rub it in a little in a nice way. What do you say come back Monday or I will know that you are a troll in sheep's clothing and so will everyone else.

Give me a break, it's a free board. I made a comment and asked a simple question. The reason is because I don't know if he was 1:1 with Nassib or Zettel all night. If so, he's not going to block them.

Now we all know your true intentions. Thank you for revealing yourself. TROLL!!!!

Agreed - Nassib and Zetttel in a different league than Denman and Muller.

So I just watched the game on TV. Others are welcome to correct me if I'm wrong because I watched it but not with slow mo or anything. In fairness to Denman, in the 1H he got blown up by AZ on a run play where AZ's motor was an issue (that's not uncommon). The only other play I saw was where Nassib simply beat him.

In the 2H, I saw one run play very early in the 3Q where Nassib beat him badly for a TFL. With 8:35 in the 3Q, he got beat badly on the play that led to the Reid INT but it was just a poor pass by Laviano. Denman being beat didn't impact that play IMO.

At 6:08 in the 3Q, Denman got confused and AZ beat him untouched on a pass play. He let him go because of a twist by Nassib but didn't touch either of them. Bad play for him.

At 2:04, he got beat by Nassib on a run play and gave up a TFL. The next play Nassib beat him and faced an early throw that prevented a RU first down at first but was overturn by replay.

I stopped watching it after you elected for the FG with 10:38 in the 4Q when down by 21. That being said, the play prior, Denman did a very nice job on AJ and held his block throughout the play.

Quite frankly, I think the OP is off base. Denman would have been a nice addition to PSU.

I'm not an o-line expert, but I did find it interesting that the pass protection seemed to get better after Muller was hurt and Marcus Applefield replaced him.

#77 not so good vs. Kansas.
His pass blocking is gonna get us to see how good Rettig really is soon enough.
I think I recall him being just as slow-moving last season when he occasionally subbed for Alexander.

If you focus on 77 long enough you will notice he is not quick and off balance quite often. He has problems with quick DEs.

I wonder if the coaches have thought about putting Cole at RT, he is tall, has long arms and I bet he is much faster/quicker than Denman. It's probably too late this year but you can get him some prep time for next year.

I am thinking the same thing. He has 8 games to correct this weakness. If he can't, I think they might be looking to someone else next year.

Shaun O'Hara, TV analyst for the Kansas game, mentioned (and pointed out on replay) that Denman has poor foot placement, allowing rushers to beat him off the block.

Shouldn't our OL coach have noticed this? Or Flood, the OL guru?

If PSU & Kansas DLs can consistently beat him, imagine what will happen when we play Mich St, Ohio St and others.

Applefield looked good against PSU. Did he play yesterday? Also there's really a chance Heeman, Cole, Applefield and other flood recruits are better than the vaunted 2012 class. Muller is solid, but Denman looks not so hot. Brodie is a total bust. I think Jonah Jackson could be really good too (I don't expect Manny Taylor to be anything but depth chart filler).

I think the coaches know. The player has to execute. That is true from 12 years old onward. Some players pick it up and adjust; others fall back into bad habits when things are not going their way; and finally others still just aren't able to do it. Not sure if Denmann is one of the latter two.

Surprised with Denman's performance. He was offered by Wisconsin (under Brett Bielema) and they wanted him bad in 2012. Would have thought an OL that WI wanted badly would be great.

Seems like a big, strong kid. Maybe better suited for guard?

kjb - I thought that Denman did OK vs. Nassib, but really struggled against your backup DEs, who seemed quicker than Nassib. Denman does OK against big, strong DEs, but really struggles against the quicker guys.

This.
I did not notice it in the stands yesterday but after watching the DVR of the game this morning Yikes !
Even O'Hara said # 77 footwork was terrible. DL linemen blowing right by him, and this is KANSAS !!!
Needs to get this fixed before the heavy hitters of the B1G come calling.

Wisconsin actually has coaches who know how to develop offensive linemen.

RU's OL coach is solid. Browning was at Minn back in the late 90s into the 2000s ,, when Minnesota had some great rushing teams under Glenn Mason. Denmen is getting solid coaching, he doesn't look that athletic to me which is a big problem for a tackle. He's going to have some really rough games coming up. I'm sure they will do stuff with the TEs and FB to help out against Calhoun, etc. However, this is going to be a problem. For all those into the star rankings. Both Denmen and Muller were rated as 4 stars and right now I would say they are the 2 worst starters on the OL. I think Taj Alexander (who was a 2 star) recruit was better at RT.
