Rutgers Head Coach 1910-1912
Howard Matthew Gargan (December 12, 1886 – January 21, 1945)

The November 30, 1910 Daily Home News reported coach Howard Gargan signed the first Rutgers multi-year contract for three years with the Rutgers Athletic Association, “Besides, it means the establishment of a permanent coaching system now in vogue in nearly all of the big colleges of the East and West. The idea of a new football coach each season has become extinct except at a comparatively few colleges.” The September 24, 1913 Targum reported he was paid $900 for the 1912 season.
