A GREAT SIGN for the future

Houston got the #6 player Ed Oliver a 5 star and they got the #48 guy Elliot Jordan.

And all I am saying is that if HOUSTON can recruit the best players in the country... it is definitely a positive that eventually with the right combo of coaching/recruiting, image, message, and performance ....Rutgers will be able to as well.

Both Ed Oliver and Eliot Jordan are from Houston Texas. I can assure you that if year after year there was the same level and amount of talent coming out of New Brunswick/Piscataway as Houston, that rutgers would land their fair share of top rated talent.

As I said before, I like your optimism but it's just a completely different situation.

There are 12 CFB programs in Texas alone...lots of choice with that ever setting foot outside the state

I think what he was saying is that 4 of the current top 10 recruiting classes are Big 10 teams. That actually is a veryy good sign for Rutgers. The last couple of years I believe only 2-3 teams in the Big 10 finished with top 25 classes. The fact that this year is such a dramatic increase goes to show that recruits are starting to see how great the Big 10 is. In time that will circle down and teams like us, md, etc will have a much easier time getting top 25 classes... in due time

I was thinking that as well but how is that good for Rutgers if they aren't one of those top 4?? The OP makes a completely illogical point. Than others keep pointing out how good the Big Ten is doing well. So what, doesn't that mean Rutgers has to do the same? It just makes it harder for RU win in conference games.

We have to crawl before we can walk, the only time I can remember us having a top 25 recruiting class was 2012, if the Big 10 starts being viewed by recruits the way the SEC is, there will be waaaaaay more than 4 teams ranked in the top 25 recruiting, it could easily double and no reason why rutgers couldn't be one of those schools. It's gonna take some time and work and in today's world of instant gratification, it can be hard to see that Rutgers realistically is 5-10 years away from potentially challenging for a Big 10 title. we need to establish ourselves as a good team in the Big, don't need to be elite, just good and knock off some teams like PSU, Michigan State, etc along the way. It will start off with 2-3 four star recruits each year then go from there, but people do need to be patient and not expect just on a wimp, Rashan Gary is coming to Rutgers.

Similar to what schiano did to build up rutgers, I'm afraid most of that work from a recruiting standpoint is washed away, we need to regain momentum and the only way to do that is win

I agree it's going to take time but 2016 will be the 4th recruiting class since the magical Big Ten announcement. Isn't it time to get beyond the getting the 2 and 3 star hidden gems?

I'm saying that if elite recruits are willing to stay home for a non power 5 conference school, that has a much smaller media market, and has a stadium of 40,000 capacity..... then that is a great sign that IT CAN BE DONE.

It shows that even in this day and age, recruits do want to stay home.

Now if you want to debate NJ kids vs TX kids then feel free, I was just pointing out that if a school like Houston can keep elite talent home... then it would lead me to think that a school like Rutgers will DEFINITELY be able to as well.
Yessir. When you're talking NJ versus TX it's always a factor. I've spent plenty of time in enough parts of Texas to see there's a special pride in their state. Texans don't have that innate desire to flee their home state. And last I checked there were 8 FBS schools to choose from to stay in-state (i wouldn't be surprised if there are more now).

Just being announced to the big ten really isn't as much of a factor to these kids as one would think. It's not like these jersey guys are getting the shot to play in a conference they otherwise would have. Plus u know the big question is whether Rutgers can hang... 8-5 is good but being blown out in 4 of those 5 losses isn't. The truth is until we scan beat teams like penn state, mich, Ohio state, etc with relative consistency PLUS get a tenacious head coach, Rutgers unfortunately will continue to be viewed as a safety school to top local recruits

Texas is heaven to those kids, the day they're born they're taught to worship the state they live in. It's a philosophy, it's handed down from previous generations. About the closest we come to that is Jersey boys are tough, it ends there.
Out philosophy is to defend our state, and have a chip on our shoulder because everyone makes fun of it...
We have no state pride in a grand sense.

How is illogical to think that if Houston can keep top local recruits home then Rutgers should eventually be able too as well? Not sure why that is so illogical please explain?

It's not illogical, it's just numbers. You have about 5-10 D1 prospects in texas for every 1 in new jersey. In addition if there were as many 4* and 5* kids coming out of New Brunswick/Piscataway each year as there are Houston Texas, I can assure you Rutgers would be landing some of those kids.

The point is that once you get out of north jersey and unless you are an alum, no one cares about rutgers, half the country probably couldn't even tell you what state rutgers is located in if they were asked walking down the street. Like I said before, it's about perception and until we start putting top 25 teams out consistently OR get a $500 million phil knight kind of donation things will be much the same.
